10.9.2 update with dual GeForce GTX670 GPU and Thunderbolt issues

Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Done a lot of searching but not found anything that addresses my issues.


I was running 10.9.1. It was stable and everything worked. I recently decided to update to 10.9.2 and not I'm having issues.


My system:
Mac OS X 10.9.2
MultiBeast 6.2.1

Asus P8Z77-V Premium
Intel Core i7-3770K
Dual EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW
32GB RAM
System on a SanDisk SSD
Promise Pegasus R6 RAID connected via Thunderbolt.

I run a Dual GPU system but only have one display connected to the primary card. This is because I used the system to run DaVinci Resolve that uses both GPUs for image processing.



If I boot from an old back-up system (10.8.3) none of these below issues occur. So I know all the hardware is working and the BIOS is all set-up correctly.

The issues.
First issue I'm having is that with the Promise Pegasus R6 connected via Thunderbolt I get a kernal panic.

Seems so panic just after the PowerState is registered and set. Last few lines are:

If I disconnect the Thunderbolt drive the machine boots successfully.



The second issue is that when I boot without the Promise Pegasus R6 connected via Thunderbolt the machine boots but I have no GPU support. My system seems to think I have an "unknown 5 BM graphics" card. When I check the system report only one of my GTX670 cards are seen (the 2nd card). The primary card is listed as unknown.

If I remove one of the GTX670 cards the system boots and sees the primary card. I've tried swapping the cards and the same result. I can only get the system to boot with a single card. If I have both installed the system does not recognise the primary card.

I tried booting with my display connected to the 2nd card and the same applies. The system sees the primary card but reports it as "unknown 5 MB graphics". The 2nd card that the display is connected to is recognised as a GTX670 4GB card.


Any ideas as to how I can solve these?

UPDATE

Ok so I've just done a re-install of the OS from an fresh UniBeast 3.0.1 USB stick.

Still Kernal panic with the Thunderbolt drive connected. See screen shot.


Without the Thunderbolt connected the system starts up at the correct resolution (2560x1400) but with an "Unknown 14 MB" graphics card.

This just gets stranger... Just booted up the machine and now the "About this Mac" shows the GPU as a GeForce GTX670 0 MB

In the System Report both cards are listed.
The primary card listed as GeForce GTX 670 with 0 MB of VRAM.
The second card is listed as GeForce TGX 670 with 1 MB of VRAM.

Any ideas as to what might be going on?

Update

So I've managed to get the system to recognise both GPUs. Not entirely sure what did the trick but I reset the BIOS to default and re-ran MultiBeast, set the SMBios to iMac13.2 (was alway MacPro3.1 before), repaired permissions. Seems to have done the trick.


Still no joy with the Thunderbolt
If I have the Promise Pegasus RAID connected to the Thunderbolt port I still get a kernal panic. Attached is screen shot of the latest panic. Seems to be caused by: com.promise.driver.stex(5.2.7), com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIParallelFamily(3.0.0) and com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.9)

This was all working in 10.9.1 and in 10.8.x.

Tried a different Thunderbolt device, a Seagate GoFlex adaptor, system boots fine. No panics and the drive connected to the adaptor mounts fine.

Tried the Promise Pegasus on my 17" MacBook Pro (10.9.2) and it boots up just fine. The RAID mounts and the Promise Utility sees the drives and all tests pass.

This is very frustrating. The joy of hacking. ;-)


Anyone got any ideas???

Looks like my Easter Weekend will be spent reinstalling 10.9.1.

Good think you made that backup with carbon copy cloner before you tried to upgrade right???

Sadly no back-up this time... sigh... Last back-up I have is for 10.8.x.

And I don't have the Mavericks 10.9.0 or 10.9.1 installer backed up and Apple only have the 10.9.2 available.

Thanks... managed to find a copy of 10.9 installer. So will do a fresh build over the weekend.

Re-installed 10.9.1 and ran MultiBeast 6.1.0.

Both GPU's are now working and no Kernel panics when I have the Promise Pegasus Thunderbolt RAID connected.

Seem that if you have duel GPU and/or a Promise Pegasus Thunderbolt RAID you best avoid 10.9.2.

Hi Adamroberts, having exactly the same problem with 10.9.2 and Pegasus R6 connected to a Z77 UP5 TH.

Just tried a fresh install with 10.9.3 but with no success.

Wondered if you had any workaround/solution to this problem since you last post?
