So, i'll be sharing my G5 mod. I'm going to keep it as clean and original as possible. As such, it won't be really special, but since you all have been inspiring and a source of information, i'll keep you posted on my progress.
I'm not going very fast, i really don't want to mess it up, so...
If i were to remove one of the three hooks on the door latching mechanism, would that particularly affect the door?
I need to make some room for a radiator, and the easiest way would be to cut into that piece. It would be the forward most hook, if that's important
Hi there everyone!
I haven't got much time at the moment, and this may take a while to complete fully, but I am planning to build a Hackintosh over the summer out of a really beaten up PowerMac G5 (Dual CPU) case that I have bought.
I have attached images and here's a list of what I have...
Hi guys.
I've searched the forum posts for this answer but whatever I found didn't work.
I've modded this case a while back and it was working perfectly with my old mobo. I've got a new Gigabyte H97M-D3H to replace the old one. This mobo doesn't come with firewire connector, and I don't...
Maybe I missed it, but I've been looking for the exact, or close to, measurements of a PowerMac G5 so that I can try to recreate it in 3D. I would need to know the thickness of the aluminum, the height of the sides, the height and width of the handles etc. The more accurate the info, the better...
Does anyone know what size standoffs come with the mountain mods motherboard tray?
Need to know for my upcoming build, it'll make things way easier if i know the size they're supplied with
Edit: I've been told they're 3mm plus threads, can anyone confirm?
Greetings,
I recently bought two DP 2004 G5's and am planing on converting them for use with my current ATX box and a future 2015/16 build (when intel start shipping new processors.)
I had a single processor G5 when i had my own company back in 2003. It was an Awesome work horse back...
Hi all,
I have got a 20" (I think) Apple Display from 2003 :D, and it has a ADC connector. I own a 2012 Macbook Pro which only has a thunderbolt:-(, so I was looking on eBay and found ADC to DVI adapters, then DVI to HDMI or Thunderbolt, but they are quite expensive. So I was wondering what if...
Hello all
This is my second post about my now oldish PowerMac which has gone through various stages over the last 5 years of so. I've tried different configurations before settling for this one, which I'm very pleased about and that I thought I would share.
I wanted it to be all...
Hey G5 Builders,
I'm looking into the possibility of my first custom build, and my only apprehension is my uncertainty for the systems reliability. Thats why I come to you!
To explain a bit further - I'm a photographer and because of this I face the same computing challenges as most other...
I just completed assembling my G5 mod which I documented here and there some more alterations I would like to apply to it before I feel it is complete. Here are the following:
How do I create an external button for the blu ray burner on the outside of my chassis?
I was thinking of strapping...

Hello everyone. I am in the process of modding a G5 chassis for the first time. I'm thinking about trying my hand at doing as little cutting as possible with whatever method of modding that is quick and easy for me to do. I plan to cut out the excess pieces from the chassis using a drimmel hand...

Hello everybody,
A couple of weeks ago I had the change to by a Powermac G5 late 2005 and a Mac Pro from 2006 for €120 (about $160).
I thought this was a very good price and bought both. The G5 has a bad PSU but the Mac Pro still works but runs very hot (CPU around 90°C).
I also have a...
Hey Guys,
First i want to say that my project is NOT A REPLICA of neilhart's Shortstack Powermac G5, ( http://www.tonymacx86.com/powermac-g5/93348-neilharts-g5-short-stack-powermac-g5-mod.html )
I also had the idea of a Smaller G5 Case, because i actually do not need this much space like in a...
I have seen several occasions where people were able to buy a wiring kit to hook up the old I/O to the new ATX mobo. I don't have this I/O card. The one in my G5 is a direct contact with the mobo type.
I need suggestions and help to make this work.
So my original post is gone....don't know why....wish I had saved it.
So New post!!
