macOS 10.15 Catalina is Now Available on the Mac App Store

Hey, I see you have it installed on an i7-860. Any tips for me, as I have the same processor? I'm stuck at Sierra, and haven't been to get anything past that going.

Error installing High Sierra on Fusion Drive

It's very possible. I thought I had booted from the external drive (HDD, not SSD), and selected it as the target for installation, but whatever I did wrong it worked out.

Error installing High Sierra on Fusion Drive

After my first attempt at upgrading to High Sierra left me with the loading kernel cache error documented in the 1st post, I had to boot into Recovery and run First Aid to recover my Fusion Drive. I then used CCC to clone my Sierra install to an external HD. I then proceeded to upgrade this...

UniBeast: Install OS X El Capitan on Any Supported Intel-based PC

I know this will probably get lost in the noise, but a great big thanks for this guide. I had first attempted to perform the direct upgrade, but since I had a Fusion Drive the installer would not allow me to install. So I bit the bullet and installed from scratch, after separating my SSD and...

AudioEnabler - Patcher for Onboard & HDMI

Re: AudioEnabler - Patcher for Onboard & HDMI - TESTERS NEEDED Gotcha! When I saw the 887/888b listed in the patcher, I thought maybe a new solution had been found.

AudioEnabler - Patcher for Onboard & HDMI

Re: AudioEnabler - Patcher for Onboard & HDMI - TESTERS NEEDED I have tried the patcher twice, and I get the same results I got when I tried to patch AppleHDA manually in 10.6.4 and 10.6.5: the kext loads, the Sounds preferences look normal, it even auto-detects when I plug/unplug my headphones...

    Sandy Bridge Builds?

Yeah, Gigabyte... I wonder why they bucked the trend?

    NVIDIA or ATI and WHY?

ATI, since I do not have very fond memories of the time I spent working there. In time, I suppose the bitterness will pass, and I may start buying some of their products again... Edit: by there, I meant nVidia...

Dual channel or Tri Channel RAM

Most benchmarks seem to indicate that on average, tri-channel offers around 5-10% better performance. It's up to you to decide which is more important to you, price or performance/more memory.

    i7 upgrade?

I can't answer your questions directly, but I do have two comments. The i7 930/950 CPUs are meant for socket 1366 motherboards, so they are not compatible with your motherboard. i7 860/870/875K are your only options.[/*:m:pnrj1q67] An easy way to check if more RAM would help: look at Activity...

Hardware identifier Macpro3,1 etc vs others effect speed?

Yeah, it's a known problem with iStat Menus 3.10. He has made some changes in there to key on the hardware identifier to figure out what sensors should be there. There are two workarounds: Go back to MacPro3,1[/*:m:3ad73xhx] Go back to iStat Menus 3.5[/*:m:3ad73xhx]

Brand New Territory - A Budget Upgrade

You still need either ATY_init.kext, or a custom version of the Chameleon bootloader along with GraphicsEnabler=yes. There are two versions of the bootloader you can use for this purpose, and they can be found here (this is the one I personally use) and here.

Sapphire ATi Radeon 5770HD 1GB Success

Speaking of Kabyl, have you seen this thread? He's got a single boot file that works for all the types of frame buffers. It tries to guess which one your card uses, and does pretty well at it, but even if it gets it wrong you can override with the "AtiFb" key in com.apple.boot.plist. It's worked...

    Ga-P55M-UD2 With ATI 5770 1GB ?

I have a Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2, along with a Powercolor PCS+ HD5770 1GB, and the combo works perfectly for me. I did not have to edit the DSDT when I added the card. As far as HDMI is concerned, I must admit that I don't really know. I only have access to old CRT monitors, but I tested both DVI...

    ALC888 32/64-bit AppleHDA.kext (10.6.4)

Oh well, at least I'm glad to know it's not anything I'm doing wrong! Since I'm also having trouble with VoodooHDA, I guess I'll stick with the 10.6.2 version of AppleHDA. Thanks for the help.

    ALC888 32/64-bit AppleHDA.kext (10.6.4)

Thank you very much! That's the exact same guide I've been using, and I can't seem to get it to work. I patched the AppleHDA binary with "87 08 EC 10" for my device (ALC887, aka ALC888b), and left LegacyHDA in E/E. My DSDT was already modified with the HDEF changes. After installing the patched...

    ALC888 32/64-bit AppleHDA.kext (10.6.4)

Hi Bansaku, I would like to maintain a patched AppleHDA for ALC888b/887, similar to what you have done. I have looked around for tutorials on how to do so, but I'm curious to see what method you use. Could you point me in the right direction?

Simple HD 57/58/59xx Installation Using MultiBeast [OLD]

Re: UPDATED Simple HD 57/58/59xx Installation Using MultiBeast I switched from ATY_init to that boot loader last week, and it's working great. I'm now back to booting in 64-bit.

Hey All, I got some probs with multibeast

That is not 100% true. If you use ATY_init, then yes, you're restricted to booting to 32-bit mode at this time. However, there are bootloaders out there that can replace ATY_init, and those do work in 64-bit mode, so it is possible.

    Sony Optiarc question

You wouldn't happen to remember the details on this one, would you? Which drive, or which firmware would be nice. I have a Samsung drive that I'd like to get auto-sleep with, so this firmware upgrade would be great for me. Thanks.
