    16gb Ram?

I have a 4540s, with 16GB (2x8GB) of Crucial DDR3 1600 1.35V RAM working very well with Mavericks. Booted to desktop, with no other programs opened, Activity Monitor shows long periods of 99+% idle. The system behaves well apart from the odd Apple UI and sleep/resume works reliably...

Guide to Installing Mountain Lion on HP Probook

Dunno... Some questions, please: Tell us which parts of step 7 you reach, and do, so we know where your experience deviates from what is mentioned there. Do you press Esc? Do you press F9? Does the USB drive show in the list, and then do you select it? Details, please. We can't see what...

    4540S LCD Screen (1080p replacement)

These fellows got 2560x1440@55 Hz on HD4000 with Windows & Linux. I haven't gone far enough with Hackintoshes yet to know if one of the 3d party video utilities would allow arranging the same on a 4540s: http://www.notebookcheck.net/2560x1440-or-2560x1600-via-HDMI.92840.0.html These folks...

    4540S LCD Screen (1080p replacement)

Can you point at a table or other resource that says what external resolutions a 4540s Hackintosh will drive via the HDMI port? I haven't found one yet. Thanks.

    4540S LCD Screen (1080p replacement)

My first response was to object, as before I attempt the display rotation, and also after I cancel the display rotation, I am definitely not in mirror mode. I saw to that several days ago. But, sure enough, attempting to rotate the display switches the system into mirror mode. And I'll say...

    4540S LCD Screen (1080p replacement)

I seem to attract odd situations. When I open the Display panels in settings, I see one labelled for my "Built-in Display" and the other labelled for my "VP102" HDMI monitor. Only the pane for my external monitor has a control to rotate the display and when I use it, the two panes both are...

    4540S LCD Screen (1080p replacement)

I didn't spend a lot of time in the store (holding my machine in my hands while connected up to see if I could rotate the display). Perhaps I should have investigated more - so I will sometime. At home, perhaps the external (inexpensive) monitor I am using isn't capable somehow because it's...

    4540S LCD Screen (1080p replacement)

Yes. In my case, you are "preaching to the choir", RehabMan - I'm not new either. 8-) Yes. My system is/was set not to mirror, as I already am using a loaned HDMI display at home, but one which doesn't physically rotate. Just as modern systems get display characteristics from reading EDID...

    4540S LCD Screen (1080p replacement)

I encountered another instance like this several years ago when I put Leopard on a Fujitsu slate tablet. It was possible to get the digitiser to work so I could use the system without a keyboard. But it wasn't possible to rotate the display to switch into Portrait mode (wide screen is called...

    4540S LCD Screen (1080p replacement)

Ah. In fact what I want is the facility Windows & Linux provide on my systems - I can inform the system what the PPI of the display panel is and it will use more or fewer pixels to form each item. "10 point" text is a physical measurement in the world, not a pixel count, and so regardless of...

    4540S LCD Screen (1080p replacement)

If I install a 1080p display panel, and enable HiDPI, will the desktop be extended past the physical limits of the screen? Another way to describe it - if I just zoom the display, objects near the edges are 'pushed off' the screen edges as the display expands. In a similar way, will enabling...

4540s sometimes no keyboard or trackpad at login screen

Thanks for all the help - RehabMan and nguyenmac and others who contributed. I don't know the source of my problems, but I can write what I am doing about it. I took a day off for my brain to cool and then I zero'ed some drives and re-installed the Windows 7 that came with the machine. This...

4540s sometimes no keyboard or trackpad at login screen

I agree. The working configuration is: 16GB (2x8GB) Crucial RAM Samsung 840 Pro SSD The alternatives I've been using the last two days: (2x)4GB Hynix RAM (provided with ProBook originally) Either Silicon Power V60 SSD or Hitachi rotating SATA drive But I'm also certain I have...

4540s sometimes no keyboard or trackpad at login screen

I encountered the same behaviour with a 1x8GB Crucial module. I am baffled. Looking over the sequence of posts, it appears my successful install was after I updated the BIOS to F.42. I can't think of another change that has occurred. To calm my nerves, I reassembled the Broadcom adapter...

4540s sometimes no keyboard or trackpad at login screen

Interesting. Without the wifi card, as you might expect, there are no issues regarding network - I simply told it I don't connect. It's hanging at the 'Setting Up Your Mac...' screen. Perhaps attempting an install with the 'other' RAM would be illuminating...

4540s sometimes no keyboard or trackpad at login screen

I will try. That doesn't explain why I was able to install before, or why it continues to work with the 'good' install I have. But it will be another data point, especially if it works.

4540s sometimes no keyboard or trackpad at login screen

No change. The wifi is not found, and the install hangs on the 'Setting Up Your Mac...' screen. Forcing power off and then booting on the USB install stick with 'IGPEnabler=No -x' gets me a prompt requesting the name and password of an Administrator. Using the one I entered previously during...

4540s sometimes no keyboard or trackpad at login screen

Just because I was there and it was easy I rebooted on 'IGPEnabler=Yes -x' and reached a desktop after supplying an administrator account name and password. I think I used 'Yes', but may have copied your argument 'No' as that is what I was looking at when I did this. I'll think I'll try again...

4540s sometimes no keyboard or trackpad at login screen

Same behaviour as before: no wifi access point found, and the system hangs at the 'Setting Up Your Mac...' screen before going to the desktop. I don't think it was corruption remaining on the drive from previous faliures some how. I can try: Install Mountain Lion from the rebuilt installer...

4540s sometimes no keyboard or trackpad at login screen

Yes. And until I gain the ability to install without surprises, that will be the only way I will patch the DSDT. If my knowledge is not adequate to install, I also can't be certain of what I'm doing further on. I am using 'IGPEnabler=Yes IGPlatformID=01660003 -x PCIRootUID=0...
