301 posts and climbing about this damn UHD 630. What a nightmare. With the new Mac Mini officially sporting this exact graphical infrastructure, hopefully the ongoing torture will end soon.
@biodork, Became hyper-curious about this little guy over the last few hours. How does sleep do? Functional?
There's a youtube video going around -- and it has full acceleration on it. I'm just looking to see if sleep works - cause that's definitely gonna tip me over the edge into buying this...
On a G3 Dell Laptop with i5-8300H + UHD 630 Integrated [and disabled 1050ti] (see bio) -- same exact issue.
3 minutes of backlight absent, then, boom - it's perfect; Full hardware acceleration, etc, just takes a while.
Interesting news coming from Intel lately, most notably the WiFi coming baked into the CPU:

With this change, starting at Whiskey Lake processors...
Don't feel dumb. The most difficult portion of this project was getting the dedicated graphics to be rendered completely disabled - in fact, I'm still on Sierra, because I'm not certain I'd be able to follow the guide again -- it's just that difficult.
Your touchpad not working is likely due to...
Do you mind me asking how you got your particular BCM94352Z working? I'm running in circles. Been trying the same "moving all around" just to get Wifi working.
I have been building this exact same rig. i5-6500 and everything. I managed to boot to the installer by having Lilu.kext, FakeSMC.kext, and RealtekRTL8111.kext in the "Other" folder. After that, I didn't even need any special boot commands to get to the installer.
Can confirm. Sure is nice to find a hidden thread via Google a mere 2 days after the issue arose. The last 3 hours have been frustrating.
Version 8.2.3 (latest El Capitan Multibeast) errors out no matter what you select for installation. The log claims:
Same as OP. It likely isn't relevant...
I'm an idiot, but if I had to guess, I'd say you either don't have the disable nvidia flag enabled, or, El Capitan doesn't play as nicely as Sierra for this generation of laptop.
Wifi has been installed, and is officially working! Same with bluetooth (currently using a magic-trackpad, and working wonderfully). This laptop is now at 100% functionality. :D
Good question!
Mine never dips below 1000Mhz, so I guess this is something I need to work on too! Because I...
Thank you everyone who has gotten this thing set up with me. Thank goodness this is an Acer instead of one of the brands that whitelists 1 or 2 wifi cards.
Wireless broadcom based card is on the way, and I will test and confirm upon its arrival. :) .
Why yes! Is there a trick to getting three finger gestures working with the voodoops2 kext? It registers it, but I just get the apple error noise every time I try three fingers (i.e.: to bring up expose).
(If fake quoting is against the forum rules, I'm sorry - just a joke if it isn't obvious.) :)
Thanks for the tip! I've posted over there with a status (not working, kext signature validation error like another user a few posts above). Looks promising though! I'll keep an eye on it.
Now I wait for my WiFi card to arrive.
I clicked energy in activity montior... which I now know is a Sierra issue after a search.
The fix is described as such:
What do I do if ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ActivityMonitor.plist isn't an available .plist file? >_>
I'm an idiot. Used "go to folder" this time instead of navigating...
Gah! Dammit! It's always the little things...
Eureka.
Only one detected! :D . Time to edit post #1.
EDIT: A good edit. The laptop is MUCH cooler to the touch, and the battery life is not noticably draining anymore. THANK YOU for the GUIDE, even though I needed a swift kick every time I...
