there should be no issues if you remove your wifi card and use another one. Edimax EW-7822UAC USB device is a good one but is dependent on USB 3.0 .. if your build has no issues with USB 3.0 go for it. You can also use the Aus PCE-AC68 card its supported in 10.8.5.

Mountain Lion 10.8.5 working perfect with my xw8600 .. i also got the Asus PCE-AC68 working for 802.11ac wifi Dual Quad Core Xeon X5450 with 16GB Ram and Samsung 250GB SSD .. Loving this workstation.

Just installed and tested the new Asus PCE-AC68 card ... it working fine with 10.8.5 :thumbup:... its detected as an airport card.
