To wrap this up…
I got a cheap i3 CPU off Ebay and put it in the used ASUS board. The computer started with no error beeps from the speaker (I tested the speaker with no RAM to make sure it works). This leads me to believe my CPU was the issue.
However, I get no video out with either HDMI or...
I see a dodgy spot on the Gigabyte (not sure if it's bent) but the Asus looks clean.
BTW a few months ago I noticed my CPU was getting hot so I repasted. Seemed to work but I'm wondering if the damage was done.
Well the new motherboard is not the solution. I've tried a new power supply and that's not it either. All that's left is the CPU. The computer first powers up, then the CPU fan runs for several seconds, then everything stops. After that nothing but a twitch with the fans when I hit the power...
Thanks for all the suggestions! I've ordered a board off of Ebay and hopefully the seller knows what they're talking about when they describe it as "working perfectly". You've got to assume they haven't really tested all the RAM slots and SATA connections…and I'll be using them all.
I wouldn't invest in a new hackintosh at all now. I hate having to take a chance on a $90-$100 used motherboard for this one but Apple's current lineup just doesn't excite me enough to spend probably $3000 total for a new Mac and to get all my internal hard drives connected externally, get a new...
Thanks. You're emphasizing what I already thought was true about ASUS v. Gigabyte for the time period based on what I've seen through the years.
I'm currently reading up on what I'll have to change in the current OpenCore configuration.
My Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H motherboard died after 8 years and I'm looking for a replacement that will hopefully work for a couple of years…my plan being to buy an appropriate Mac at that time.
I'm thinking that moving everything onto another full-size ATX LGA 1150 motherboard should be pretty...
I redid the thermal paste on my CPU and GPU and when I restarted all hell broke loose. I got most everything back to normal (had to reconfigure my BIOS) but there are two side-by-side USB ports that are screwing things up if I have anything plugged into either of them.
What happens when...
So a Mac Studio w/M1 Max, 1TB SSD and 64GB RAM would be $2600.
What's a rough guess of what a current Hackintosh with similar specs would cost…ignoring ports, bluetooth, and wifi?
It's fixed.
A new user account had same Issue so problem must lie in /Library folder. Had a clean install of Monterey on an external SSD and no issue. Did a diff command in terminal and narrowed it down to the /Library/Filesystems folder…had five things in there…probably from old install of...

I have this other thread going:
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/ntfs-and-fat-drives-not-mounting.319082/
and I'm wondering if anyone could let me know if they are dual booting Monterey and Windows like me and if their Windows drive mounts in macOS.
My two system drives are both 2.5"...
I reinstalled macOS Monterey (on top of current installation) and the drives will still not mount.
Also, I created a new User Account and get the same results.
Yeah I thought they should at least be mounting and readable. I installed MacFuse and that hasn't made any difference. I'm not sure if they ever mounted in Monterey so I don't know if one of the updates…or something I've installed…has wonked things up.
I guess a macOS reinstall is my next step.
