I have mine set to iMac and I am getting the same deal.

I actually gave up on it because it was driving me so crazy. I ended up switching to Premier Pro and I must say I like it a lot more. Quicker, more user friendly, and doesn't crash every 10 seconds.

I ended up removing FCPX and reverting to FCP7. 7 works fine, and I think it is because of OpenCL. FCP7 does not require OpenCL but FCPX does (so does M5). Any idea on kexts perhaps?

Yes. It is a legit copy. At the moment, it was a demo of FCPX and a purchased version of M5.
