[SOLVED] did not reboot today, stays at blurry El Capitan screen

Finally got it working again! I had to create a Sierra Unibeast boot USB flash drive. It booted to the Install Sierra App (funny how none of the old OS could. Yosemite failed, ElCapitan failed, but Sierra worked). I was able to use the Utilities menu to access Disk Utility and run a First Aid...

ASUS Z77 + El Capitan: lost the Intel USB 2.0 & USB 3.0 ports

Hello, Since I've upgraded my ASUS P8Z77I-deluxe mini-ITX to El Capitan, I've lost most of my USB ports. I've been experimenting with just the keyboard and mouse plugged in one USB port. The four USB 2.0 Ports and the 2 USB 3.0 below the Ethernet do not support a keyboard mouse in El...

ASRock Z97E-ITX/ac or GIGABYTE GA-Z97N-Gaming 5 for Yosemite?

Thanks for the link to your build(s). I ended up picking the ASRock board, because the Gigabyte has a weird wired Ethernet controller and this will be the main network connection for this machine (no wifi planned).

Help me build a "Hack Classic" for DVD duties: which LCD monitor?

OK, I think I've found an interesting monitor: The Qualia 9.7" which has a native resolution of 2048x1536 (Retina display). Yep, it's a true Apple and a true Retina: it's the screen from an iPad: https://learn.adafruit.com/qualia-high-res-displayport-desktop-monitor/overview...

Help me build a "Hack Classic" for DVD duties: which LCD monitor?

Hello, That's a few years I haven't built a hack, and my MS-Windows PC that I use as a media center is getting full. So I am considering building a hack to replace it. Here's what the family does daily with it: - play rented DVDs - archive my collection of DVDs (using the excellent...

    GED's Prodigy: i7-3770K - Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe - 16GB 2400MHz RAM - GA Radeon HD6870

Thanks, I am happy as it seems to be way more stable than my first hack which had become unreliable (hardware failure = constant crashes). The only drawback to the Bitfenix case is that it has too much ventilation, so it is a noisy case. Anandtech reviewed it as being silent, but it does not...

Yes, just did. it works OK enough for me. For the LG burner, I also added an LG bluray drive. See my original post on how I got it to play blurays. Watch out on the Corsair H100: this one has a 240mm radiator that you have to mount on the top panel, therefore you will lose the optical...

    GED's Prodigy: i7-3770K - Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe - 16GB 2400MHz RAM - GA Radeon HD6870

No, I did not. I just plugged the big USB3.0 header. I understood the little plug as being an XOR: either USB 3.0 (big plug) or USB 2.0 (small plug). A bit like the audio thingy which comes with an "AC97" connector or an "HD Audio".

Just upgraded to it today. I delayed the install because I do software development, and not everything - www.valgrind.org - worked on Mountain Lion. Looks like it's the same to Lion, with I hope a more stable USB. So far (one hour), looks better. Picasa is back, iTunes is back. No more X11...
