I had a fresh install question. I've seen a few posts about it on here, but I wasn't 100% clear on how to proceed.
My current hackintosh was built in Jan 2017, is 10.11.3 (El Capitan), and I've added the rest of the hardware components to my profile. So I want to completely overhaul my system...
Hey @shilohh,
My machine has been perfect for a long time now (THANK YOU), but it's starting to flake a bit.
Every time I start up it always goes into bios, then I restart and it boots fine. No error report. Not the biggest problem tbh, but could this be a sign of other issues I should...
Hey Shilohh,
As always thank you for all the advice. This thread continues to be the best thing!
It's been a while since I built my twin hackintoshes, and they're starting to show their age. One boots into bios on most startups, and the other has no audio sometimes. Both problems fixed by...
Premiere CC 2015.3 onwards have switched to Metal renderer for the foreseeable future. Meaning it looks for the standard AMD card installed in Macbooks and Mac Pros. Because we're using NVIDIA cards Premiere crashes your machine on start-up. So yeah, it's a problem.
I haven't seen Shilohh post...
Just had a nice long chat with an Adobe rep about crash issues around the latest Adobe CC (2015.3) and this build.
Shilohh, I'd love to get some advice on this, but don't want to clutter the thread for non-editors. Am I ok to post here about CC issues directly related to this build, or should I...
Hey Shilohh,
I've got a weird audio bug. Sometimes the audio on my system is delayed by a second or so.
It's across a bunch of stuff - YouTube, Premiere CC, Quicktime, etc. - when you play something the video starts immediately and the audio takes about a second to turn on. Then it continues...
It's looking more and more likely that it's a hardware fault.
The good news is that I switched the faulty DVI to a Displayport and it's running silky smooth. Now onto the pain of dual booting Win 10.
Cheers for all your help so far. Very much appreciated.
I removed the second screen (DVI) and all the problems went away. WTF? :banghead:
The first screen is HDMI, btw.
Does that mean it's the port? the screen?
That's not good :-(
I don't have a Windows install, but my next step is to dual boot so any advice/guides would be handy. As I understand it I need to create a UEFI Windows USB and boot from that.
However, because I'm building two of these machines I have a 2nd GTX 980 in the cupboard! If I...
I'm bought this card - https://www.dabs.com/products/msi-geforce-gtx-980-4gb-pci-express-3-0-hdmi-gaming-gtx-980-gaming-4g-9RJN.html
Here's the system report, starting to wonder if it's the dual display that's causing issues...
And this is the SSDT I'm using...
I started getting the same panics without any USB 3.0 devices plugged in, so I removed them completely. I did all of those steps in order, no luck. Can't make it stable.
New report is here -
I was noticing some stuttering of video playback in Premiere CC, and occasionally some out of sync playback in Quicktime, so maybe the graphics driver is causing all sorts of issues. There's a newer NVIDIA driver available, I'll give that a go.
How do I rebuild the kext caches?
Things got weirder…
When trying to replicate the error for you it booted just fine. I restarted/shutdown 3 more times, with the USB 3 still plugged in and it was fine. So I moved to another USB 3 port and it paniced again, but even once the USB 3 was removed it continued to panic 4 times...
I spoke to soon… there’s a problem :-(
I built the machine with the Inateck PCI USB 3 card installed and followed your guide completely and got the hack up and running. But now I’m getting similar kernel panics that you described for onboard USB 3.
From the desktop I can plug in a USB 3...
Hey Shilohh,
After months of waiting for parts my machine is finally up and running, so I wanted to say THANK YOU for such a fantastic and detailed guide. I've proudly updated my profile to reflect my new sexy hardware :P
This is the first of two identical builds, so hopefully things go...
@shilohh That all sounds very positive. Thanks!
I'll start sourcing everything now. Making two of these at the same time might break me, but I'm ready*.
*spoiler: I'm not ready ;)
First up, this thread is brilliant. So many great contributors.
This will be my second build (current one detailed in my profile) and while it seems a little beyond my knowledge and comfort level I'm keen to dive in anyway. Just to make things more difficult for myself I'll be building two of...
I can't get past point 2B.
I've already installed Mountain Lion on my 120gb SSD and it runs like a dream, no trying to install Windows 7 onto the same drive. The drive is partitioned into 60gb Mac Journaled and 60gb FAT32. It boots from the Windows disk, I click "custom" then chose disk 0...
