Hi!! You will be better off with Yosemite! The Nvidia Web drivers doesn't work right now with El Capitan for the 980 ti. We need to wait for new drivers.

I'm probably not the best one to give you an answer but, I read that the GTX 980 doesn't work with Mavericks, only with Yosemite 10.10.1
