Thanks, anmulder, I made that sad discovery (about Mojave and the non-existing nVidia Web Drivers) shortly after my last post. So I'm back on a fresh install of High Sierra, as I don't want to lose the GTX 1080. Currently wrestling with another issue (USB 3 ports not working), but thanks to...
Thank you, BreBo, I came here with the same issue, and your tip to use the USB 2 port worked.
Now I'm stuck with the installer briefly popping up, showing "About 13 minutes remaining" for around 20 seconds and then rebooting. I'll go hunting for hints now...
Thanks for your extensive reply, Adrian! Shortly after posting my question I decided I wanted to check it out myself and went ahead and got the RX 580. Observations so far:
- My build boots fine with both cards installed. I was actually wondering if my PSU would take it. It does.
- The RX 580...
Hi there,
my aging i7 3770k build has recently been pimped with a GeForce 1080 and is still going strong. However, as nVidia cards don't offer Metal support in macOS, I was wondering if adding a Radeon RX 580 would offer a noticable speed boost within apps like FCP?
Please let me know if my...
Here's a mATX board from Gigabyte, the Z370M-D3H: http://www.gigabyte.de/Motherboard/Z370M-D3H-rev-10#kf
Seen it for 139 Euro at this German reseller… very tempted to order but will probably wait another while...
Kiwi, this is one amazing mod, and a fantastic guide as well! Brilliantly done, really really great. Thanks for taking the time to document your work in such detail!
I don't know where you got that info, but I believe it to be incorrect. Since Snow Leopard, OS X supports up to 16 terabytes of RAM (theoretically, of course, at least for the foreseeable future).

Thanks! You saved me from figuring all that out by myself. Had the same issue, Finder crashing and restarting after updating to 10.8.5, and once I threw out Google Drive (I can live without that), all is good again.
Not a chance in hell. Apple axed the 17" MBP for a reason, and that reason was disappointing sales. I don't expect them to have changed their minds this fast. But I would love to be proven wrong.

Well, strictly speaking that's not quite so. There *is* support for Haswell and HD 5000 in the built of 10.8.4 that's running on the new MacBook Airs. But since that code isn't part of the standard ML installation (the one from the App...
Has anyone read that article, from the link in the first post? It's kinda funny, the "journalist" (probably the same one who took the dark & blurry pictures) thinks the Brix is meant as a reaction to the Raspberry Pi and expects a similar price point.
Sure.
More like 0 by 100. :) I just tried that, ie. booting back using the "old" smbios.plist with the "old" serial number. Adobe CS6 still says that both (2) activations are being used and that it can't activate unless I deactivate one of the two installations.
Best to include a warning at the...
Not necessarily. The iMac last had an nVidia chipset back in 2009 with the GeForce 9400M (wow, that seems like a long time ago...). Starting with the Late 2009 iMac, the next three generations had AMD chips in them (4xxx, 5xxx and 6xxx series). Only now they're back to nVidia.
You're right...
Because they've changed the graphics chipset provider for the iMac a couple of times in the past - with the new models that are about to come out sooner or later, it's nVidia. It used to be AMD for a while before that.
If they had a "good reason to do so", only they know.
The fact that they ship some iMacs (and that's just the 21.5" model) by Friday to meet that "end of November" goal doesn't mean that the iMacs won't be delayed. Because they will be delayed.
I've been talking to a few Mac dealers (and someone from within Apple), and it looks like the 21.5"...

Very high. But don't expect Retina on the 27" model, and most likely not even on the 21,5", it's just not there yet in terms of component pricing. Of course I could be mistaken, but I'm...
