R9 390x Power Management My hack has a 1250 watt power supply, the idea was to outfit it for Oculus Rift, switch SSD cards, restart as a hack. FCP X is my software of choce and it ONLY works with AMD GPUs. All the FCPX addons croak when I use nvidia. Kind of strange when you think of all the...

    MultiBeast 7.0 Update

DON'T Use Cindori TRIM!! On my MAC Pro (2010 model) I installed Yosemite then used Cindori for Yosemite. Killed the drive. Interesting comment on Groth's site about the alteration in change in kext alteration. Not certain why the SSD rolled over and died but will report back. Making a CC Clone...

    Gigabyte 8-Series Motherboard UEFI Updates - 2014/01/24

Just my 2 cents . . . I use a GA 77 TH 5 motherboard and it freezes with all 4 DIMM sockets are filled with Top Drawer - IDENTICAL - Corsair Vengeance DIMMS. Original goal was to use 32 GIGS of RAM but the Windows 7 BSOD and freezes in Mavericks reduced it to 16 gigs.

The 660 Ti Thread: Questions and Answers Here!

AGPM is not loaded on my Hack. I've had so many other issues that it was never on my radar. Originally it had 32 gigs of RAM and it locked up under fcpx constantly. EVGA replaced the video card and it continued to be unstable. Last week I removed the DIMMS and started with 2 and it worked...

    OS X 10.8.4 Update

Updated, installed MB 5.3.1 before restart, restarted, no sound, reinstalled MB 5.3.1: perfect. My MacPro tower (2008 version) also updated. After the restart the CUDA Preference Panel requested to update. It updated the CUDA driver immediately. Does that mean there's a CUDA driver for 10.8.4?

Native Support for NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti and GTX 660 Graphics Cards in 10.8.3

Article: Native Support for NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti and GTX 660 Graphics Cards in 10.8.3 10.8.3 has native support for the 660TI - CUDA is great for After Effects (maybe) and other Adobe apps but Apple seems to ignore CUDA.

Native Support for NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti and GTX 660 Graphics Cards in 10.8.3

The 660TI also throws blue rectangle on Windows 7 and 8. When I log on to Diablo III I occasionally get locks while the card reloads drivers. Hmmm . . . could this be the hallmarks of a lemon? Both were fresh installs of the OSes. Drivers were courtesy of Microsoft update and I never...

The 660 Ti Thread: Questions and Answers Here!

I concur...the problem may well be Nvidia's. The same 660ti running Windows 7 seems to cause problems with Nvidia drivers. Occasionally the display drivers stop cold and the system restarts them This card is truly suspect, sorry to say. I've long been a fan of Nvidia video cards; nowadays I...

UniBeast: Install OS X Mountain Lion on Any Supported Intel-based PC

Last week I looked for a free USB flash drive but all of the ones I own are in use. The latest download from Apple of Mountain Lion is a full version of 10.8.3 and I wanted to play with a fresh start on a different SSD. I have a number of class 10 16 gig SD cards that are not in use so I played...

Build a Mac Pro for professional Work on Videos, Photos and Audio

I would suppose that would depend on the graphics cards? The 660TI requires two power cables whereas the old one required only one. IMHO the more power the better. I switched from buying the cheapest PSUs to the most expensive ones on the market: meaning they are gold or platinum. My hack has a...

Final Cut Pro X FCPX Graphic Card advice

Here's the latest... The issue with my hack is the Gigabyte vs Corsair memory tussle. Corsair CM.....10 was listed as compatible. So it is, meaning it only works with 2 8 gig pairs NOT 4. I reduced the Motherboard RAM to 16 gigs and a lot of lockups disappeared. The 660TI went back to EVGA...

    Build for FCP-X 10.0.6 / OS X 10.8.3 ?? Urgent

Its my experience that FCPX has no GPU specific requirements. I've used a 460 and a 660TI and there has been no benefit. Look at my profile. Seems that I have no use for Thunderbolt, its there just in case, since USB3 and esata work perfectly. One thing, turn off background render (FCPX locks...

Is this a good build for FCPX, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc?

Power Supplies are a big issue In the past year I stopped buying non gold power supplies. The surprise for me was how quiet the top end units are! My main Hack has a 1200 watt brute that costs as much as I used to spend on an entire computer. This unit is a top end Silverstone. No sound when it...
