Will Apple Ever Update the Mac Pro?

For regular Mac Pros, I think there will be an upgrade * that costs VERY much ($2500) MINIMUM build, max CPU maybe something around 8000) * that drastically outperforms enthusiast hardware (the stuff we might build here like i7 970, i7 990x 3770k, i7 3960x) in terms of CPU (not sure if in terms...

    i7-2600k feels slow

If you have large amounts of music and videos you can always use "ln -s" to link ~/Movies ~/Music and ~/Pictures to another "bigger" hard drive. Also I can very very much recommend Crucial M4 (128GB here cause of money issues, I'd go for the 256GB) and Trim Enabler.app. Test your new speeds...

CustoMac Pro Install Guide (X58A-UD3R+ATI 5770+10.6.7+64bit)

honestly: either get the same board or get an ivy bridge compatible chipset (i "think" its Z77, not sure, my info not up to date) ... either the vendor has to offer you the same product on warranty or you pick an upgrade for a similar retail price.

    Logic Pro 9 Benchmarks

At least for Geekbench 32 vs 64 Bit does have a big impact. Try going for 10.7.3 64 Bit. Did you try disabling ALL power saving features (you can enable those saving lots of power/heat step by step)... also try NullCPUPowerManagement p.s.: I had around 15-25% higher FPS with...

Insanely cheap first time build! Advice on componants please

Not sure if 10.8 Mountain Lion will Install on Systems having 2 GB of Ram. Also note: while OS X has a few bad sides compared to many great it has one big issue: it eats RAM alive.

AnandTech - New Ivy Bridge i7 3770k First Look

You are right. 2x 8GB DDR3 1333 Crucial = 178 Eur incl. VAT. thats ultra cheap. Great platform (price/performance) then... 3770K, 1155 board, 32 GB RAM (4x8GB RAM), a Crucial M4 256GB etc <3. What massive speeds ahead.

AnandTech - New Ivy Bridge i7 3770k First Look

Do I get it right that the 1155 platform still only supports dual channel (and thus usally only 4 ram slots = 16GB of "payable" RAM? 8 GB modules being to expensive)

Optimized AppleHDA for Realtek ALC 889 on Lion [OLD]

Re: New Optimized AppleHDA for Realtek ALC 889 on Lion - Updated Works for me. Did not test surround. Just digital coaxial out. (X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0)

Booting like an Apple Mac #2: Apple Startup Sound

I guess there must be ways to trigger an apple script or unix script that plays a sound as soon as the audio drivers/kexts are initialized. This'd not be on startup but slightly later but long before login/desktop. Thus if your are not into hardware modification you might try that.
