I misspoke, should have said having a dedicated GPU and integrated GPU (one in the chip). I do not have any experience with a eGPU.

I think getting both internal and external GPU working together helps the most. This seems easier now with the lastest Lilu and whatevergreen kexts.

I think you should just try again, you must have missed a step or setting, unfortunately, I think most people here upgraded to 10.3.5, I installed 10.3.4 directly and then upgraded, which went fine for me.
