Dual CPU Hackingtosh for a music workstation, is it possible?

+1 for this suggestion, the 1150 builds have much better support than a dual cpu Xeon build, and with that budget you would get similar (if not more) performance out of two 1150 builds.

    Hackintosh VS VMWare

Just build the hackintosh system. It will run better and you will have less headaches (as well as avoid legality issues). What hardware requirements do you have that you don't want to choose hack-compatible parts?

HDD vs SSD - Is the Speed worth the $/GB? (and few other questions)

It's ALWAYS a better idea to use a physically separate device for each OS you are using (and if possible another separate purely storage and/or backup drive for your important files). Since we are building *Hack*intoshes, problems are bound to happen in the early stages of getting things stable...

    Very very new to this...

Do all HDDs and SSDs work on a hackintosh? Technically, yes, though some better than others. What you want to watch out for are drives that use 4k sectors (advanced format), they will result in a boot:0 error (which is easy enough to fix if you're comfortable with working on a command-line)...

    Noise Concerns

Get a Fractal Design silent case is you want to go all out, otherwise just get a small case with a 120mm fan, replace it with a higher quality one (cougar fans are expensive but ridiculously quiet and cool well). Get an aftermarket cpu cooler and put another good fan on it (again 120mm is...

Best GPU for the new 28 NM

As of right now the general "fact" is that ML will bring NO new AMD gpu support, only Nvidia. So if you want an AMD card, get a 6870, if you want more power, get a GTX 570/580 or a GTX 670/680

    Final tweaks: boot and keyboard

You should be able to set the correct keyboard type under settings, that or launch something to let OSX detect it for you. (I have a weird keyboard and Lion automatically asked me to hit certain keys to determine the layout on first boot). As for the chainloading, unfortunately I don't believe...

Chicken or Egg situation for Ivy Bridge

It will probably install yes... though no idea if it will work properly. But if all you want is to boot SL to run unibeast then there is a very good chance that will work. I've got SL to boot on VERY unsupported hardware (AMD cpu's in some cases). But I can't say for sure if it will work, :/...

    Finishing it

Your HDD has 4k sectors instead of 512byte sectors most likely. There's an info link a couple posts into this thread --> http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=169&t=50227

    Gigabyte @bios BIOS Update Issue

It is possible to run the .exe under osx or many linux distros, but i wouldn't recommend it as BIOS flashing is something you DO NOT want to go wrong. Only way I've done it (and would ever do it) is properly, so in this case, yes I've encountered the same issue, I acquired a copy of windows 7...

    Windows on my hackintosh?

You're under "Standard CMOS Features" in BIOS, that isn't where you set the boot order. Under "Advanced CMOS" there should be an option that says "Hard Drive Priority" or something similar, that is where you set the boot priority (which drive to boot first).

    First Hackintosh build

Why the Z77 Mobo for a Sandy cpu? You will want separate HDD's or SSD's for each OS. So your best bet would be 2 64GB SSD's for the OS's and 2 1TB drives for storage. Or, if that isn't in your budget, Whichever OS you plan on using more put on the SSD and install the other on a small cheap HDD...

    Windows on my hackintosh?

You have to set the HDD with Chimera installed on it as the first drive to boot in BIOS. General Rule: When installing multiple OS's make sure that all other HDD's are unplugged except for the one you wish to install on.

Monitor wake (not Computer wake) Blank Screen

If I had to guess I would say it is an Nvidia problem, when I was using my HD5770 I had no sleep/ wake problems. Now with the GTX 560ti 448, sleep works but if I let the monitors go to sleep before the system I get the exact same problem you're describing. I couldn't figure out how to fix the...

WHICH GIGABYTE MOTHERBOARD IS THE MOST STABLE FOR OS X ?

Again, just basing this off info I've read because I was concerned for my board. But from the "info" on multiple forums the consensus has been that there was a bad batch of boards produced in one case, and a BIOS issue in another. Though if it worries you, pick a different manufacturer or a Z77...

WHICH GIGABYTE MOTHERBOARD IS THE MOST STABLE FOR OS X ?

As far as I know the reboot loops were a problem for a small group of boards made in one case (physical defect), and the rest of the boot loops were fixed with a BIOS update. This is childish, but all I could think of while typing 'boot loops' was "Fruit Loops" and that bird. xD

WHICH GIGABYTE MOTHERBOARD IS THE MOST STABLE FOR OS X ?

I can report the same, typing this on my hack right now. It's been stable for a few months now, no problems.

    Video card buying advise

You can feed a pretty good card with a 500w psu.... Also, HD3000 is enough to play a 1080p movie.

    Power Supply Question

I'll try to make this short; all power supplies will leech a small amount of power even if there is zero load, but no it does not suck the full wattage it's rated for at all times. It will only pull as much power as it needs to supply the demand of your system. So if both are, for example, 80+...

    Hackintosh Power Consumption?

To answer simply, because power management isn't as good because OSX wasn't written with support for the majority of our hardware, and so, the great folks here have done their best to make up for it. While windows has be specifically "optimized" to run well on our hardware. As to if we can fix...
