After reading so many posts here I tried booting in safe mode. It didn't work...
But when I restarted, the Install Mac OS High Sierra From SSD was there and it went smoothly.
I'm not using a USB installer. I have the installer in my Applications folder and I'm trying to update from there.
I tried your folder (excluding the Test2.efi file, what is it for btw?) but it didn't help. I still get back to the current version after the installer restarts.

I tried to boot without caches. When the screen went black I disconnected the HDMI cable, the monitor showed "No HDMI cable attached" message. Then I connected the cable again, then the monitor went to power saver mode. I then disconnected the cable again and connected to onboard HDMI port, but...

I chose the "without cache" mode at startup by pressing spacebar, but it gives the exact same error as in the last screenshot and then the screen goes black. :(
I disabled Intel graphic injection and connected the monitor via HDMI and disconnected the VGA cable. (monitor has HDMI and VGA, no DVI).
I'm still getting black screen after the apple logo displays and the progress bar is at about 15-20%.

I've also tried selecting InjectEDID from the clover options (when the clover screen shows on system startup) also tried setting it from the Clover configurator but it also didn't help.
