Apple might end up using Sandy Bridge-EP Xeon CPUs in new Mac Pros

Good point. Well, it's a tech from as well as Apple as Intel, so I guess they have to force it, since Intel will not proivide them with the technology the y 'need'. Of course, speculation. Very interested what's going to happen! :) Especially for the hackintosh community!

Apple might end up using Sandy Bridge-EP Xeon CPUs in new Mac Pros

Very curious if they actually will. It's very strange to have their computers with Thunderbolt, but for high end workstations, you will at least expect it. The big question will be, will Intel bend and certify a board supporting a processor which does not got a GPU?

    Best/Excellent build for Photoshop/Indesign etc

The amount of research you need to do to get something tailor made is hard. It usually was Newer is better,...but im afraid in our user friendly becoming world, the tech and hardware gets harder and more and more specific. Im learning for half a year to get back up to a decent level,...its hard :)

Xeon e3 + supermicro, esxi and mac osx 10.8

Basically,..i log in on the server and use my pc as a 'thin client',..so i use the virtual machine. I guess it means what you said,..as client. I was afraid of that already :)

Xeon e3 + supermicro, esxi and mac osx 10.8

Im building a server for business use,..mostly virtualisation. Just curious if its possible to make a virtual machine with this hardware and install osx mountain lion. Since im waiting for the new hardware and support coming in mid 2013, i can try working directly on the machine itself,..if...

    Building a CustoMac: Buyer's Guide 2012

So if I am reading it correct, the 2011 sockets ARE supported, but still no power management ?

Intel will release a new high-end version of Sandy Bridge E: i7-3970X

Same, than it would be a nice thing to get those chips OC-ed :)... Don't care about the Thunderbolt though :)

Intel will release a new high-end version of Sandy Bridge E: i7-3970X

Probably for sure; the Ivy-bridge-e processors will not come in 2012. Instead, Intel will release an update to it's Extreme edition: The i7-3970X. Source: Intel readying Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition for Q4 - TechSpot News Hopefully, Mountain Lion will support speedstep with their new iMac...

    Graphic Design Hackintosh

I'm literally in the same boat as you. I need mine because its 8 years ol, and i put it on business. Budget no issue but wont wanna go higher than 5k in euros,.. Like 6k in dollar ish. Im considering the lga2011 socket in the end, or dual e5 xeons. However,..im really uncertain with the coming...

Asus X79 Rampage IV Extreme | Core i7-3930K (Successful)

I had this same problem on my current computer, which is 8 years old. I hardly OCed it,.. I think some automated setting. First i checked all cables, plugged out most hardware, added simple mobo and old GPU ( cant call it gpu even :D). In the end, it was my PSU. Now, i've gotten an Enermax...

Asus X79 Rampage IV Extreme | Core i7-3930K (Successful)

Ok, sorry for my confusion, So if it won't work, i guess the single 680 could be good. I, strangely enough, -have- to make high-end purchase on the system. So I'm bidding on the highest end possible. I'm stressed about getting something new that works well with upcoming ML (doesnt have to work...

Asus X79 Rampage IV Extreme | Core i7-3930K (Successful)

Thanks! Thats something to think about! 3d is the least intention. Perhaps for single, a 690 could be better. Meh; it's frustrating how specific all the hardware and software gotten :s. Btw; just read the update on bridge helper for ML. Does this means speedstep/sleep will also work on the...

Asus X79 Rampage IV Extreme | Core i7-3930K (Successful)

So if i recall correct,... If i want to use an asus gtx680 cu2 top card,..in sli,..it wont be much of a problem on the extreme? I know the 680 yet supported on osx, but i might want to switch to win for the cuda support there. ( nowadays tech seems a bit confusing sometimes :))

Asus X79 Rampage IV Extreme | Core i7-3930K (Successful)

Curious. The pci support is on the mobo fine. It's just that the processor doesn't support this. Can also put a single new xeon on it, but i prolly have to get another mobo, or just a whole complete different system. The options are kimitless at the moment, but im very cautious with the rumors...

    Xeon E5 - 16 Cores/ 32 Thr Z9PE-D8 WS 12TB GeekBench 28,000

Yhea, was talking about the xeons :) more because the pcie 3.0 is supported. Im trying to find some benchmarks if the speed actually helps alot. If not, its a bit of a waste in money ;) Out of weird curiousity. Are you willing to try the new Intel Itanium Poulson, say, 4 procs as hackintosh? :D...

    Xeon E5 - 16 Cores/ 32 Thr Z9PE-D8 WS 12TB GeekBench 28,000

I actually wanted to wait with making a high end system after seeing whats upcoming,..but also seeing rumors for LATE updates for new ivy bridge procs in late 2013/2014,... With slightly cheaper xeons (seeing that they have PCIe 3) i might reconsider building. I am leaving TB for now,...)...

Intel's Next Gen Haswell CPUs to start arriving April 2013

I frankly do ot want to believe the high end desktops will come out 2014 :(. I just bought a SSD to revive my 2004 p4-3Ghz. So far works nice again, can wait until 2013 now, but seriously not to 2014 :(. Perhaps the e5 procs willl get cheaper, or they figure new things! I guess the market is...

Asus X79 Rampage IV Extreme | Core i7-3930K (Successful)

Thanks for clearing that up :) I know you mentioned it in my build post already too. The cuda stuff. Its mostly for adobe programs. AFter effects can use multiple cards so far only, perhaps premiere too but not entirely sure anymore. PS etc use single cards still. Bit of the dilemma for me...

Asus X79 Rampage IV Extreme | Core i7-3930K (Successful)

I have in many cases the same set up as the topicstarter. Although, i have three last questions which is very hard to find ( or confusing/contradicting :p ) 1. I have a double gtx 680 setup (sli), i see they got them to work, but is it already fully supported? Im mostly using it for cuda the...
