I'm grateful for all the thoughtful suggestions and people posting both bitter experience and successes. Today i picked up a sapphire pulse rx 580 (11265-05-20G) for $370 Canadian Pesos.
It was such a relief when i took the dust-caked 7850 out, put the new card in, and everything seems to be...
Thank you for these links! i have been away from the community for a while because my hack was so darn stable; looks like i got some catching up to do.
I'm using a z68x-UD3H-B3 with a 2600k. i'm having trouble getting my 7850 working with High Sierra 10.13.6, and was thinking of upgrading my video card. Any recommendations for a plug-and-play card? I'd also like to play some games, and work on some video editing. my GPU budget is around...
interesting power supply - it is a DC-ATX so it offloads the fan to a separate AC-DC converter? do you think the converter would be located outside the case or internally and alongside the DC-ATX power supply? i'm looking for a power supply that will fit in the same enclosure the existing G5's...
I was able to clean install 10.11.1 with your instructions on my z68x-ud3h-b3 + 2600k + 280x. thanks!
Using migration assistant i was able to transfer my users and applications.
all drives are on SATA.

this is the original instruction i used to install. no chimera used in install or needed to boot drive.
i am using 10.8. in one of hte attempts, i have tried 10.8.3, 10.8.4...
chimera has no effect. i installed it, but this comptuer never needed a bootloader; it was a DSDT free install.
shoudl i be using a different version of multibeast older than 5.5.5? i'm stumped as to what else i can try.
installing chimera 2.2.1 didn't change anything for audio. on bootup, the console has this error:
2013-12-03 11:04:13.000 AM kernel[0]: HDAEnabler: 05/05/2008 Added SP-Audio support by Taruga
2013-12-03 11:04:31.191 AM coreaudiod[155]: 2013-12-03 11:04:31.190451 AM [AirPlay] Started...
question: for the moarfish build i didn't use a bootloader originally. it goes directly from POST to the tonymacx86 boot screen. should i be applying chimera 2.2.1 if i didn't need it before? i'll install chimera this time around and see if i have a change. thanks!
oh yeah i've actually...
thanks for the reply!
after CCC entire drive, i run multibeast with my original selections. (i've been following the setup for this moarfish build)
drivers>audio>realtek ALC8xx>without dsdt>alc887/888b>v100302 current
the computer with new drives can boot successfully after applying...
I am upgrading the boot drive on a Moarfish build ( B75m-3dh +560ti) with 10.8 (multibeast 5.1.2? UEFI boot, no DSDT) this computer boots up without a bootloader, and works properly with the original hdd. it is only when i used the cloned drive taht problems with the sound arise.
I've CCCed...
this worked for me, thanks.
i got a card from new egg but it would only connect on 2.4ghz (as a Bluetooth WAN, even). i had a Time Capsule with dual band and set it to channel 36, and everything was great.
I used your guide for GA-B75M-D3H with an i7 3770k.
Works! this is an easy, straightforward build.
usb3 is full speed, sleep and restart.
I installed with HD4000 and added an nvidia GTX 560 ti later with multibeast for mountain lion.
thanks moarfish!
i am using a graphite (sawtooth) case. i have a quicksilver case i am planning to mod one day.
i used a corsair modular power supply and it screws in conveniently where the old G4's power supply went; even the holes match up in the polycarbonate.
i ended up cutting the middle tray out...
This is a really good idea. I am working on a sawtooth case and still have to install an LED after hacking the existing switch circuitry.
great mod; stock appearance is great.
Re: Guide: GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 with ATI 6870 - Clean Lion Install
ga-z68x-ud3h-b3 F10 with ATI 6850 checking in. thanks for your guide; working good so far.
Used Unibeast, 10.7.2 ESD, 10.7.3 combo update, and multibeast. GraphicsEnabler=No until i got the DSDT and multibeast patched.
Great...
