Problem is, this isn't my build. It's a build I built for a friend. I listed the build components in the OP. Do I still need to list them in my profile?
The build in my profile IS my current build.
Cheers :)
Hi all,
I am resorting to opening this thread because I have tried searching this forum and troubleshooting this intermittent problem and none of them have worked.
The hack boots up fine most of the time and 100% of the time after rebooting after this error. It is experienced maybe 10% of...
So I'm set to build another hack soon based on the Z370 chipset and the i7-9700K. The 8700K is sold out currently here in South Africa. We went with the Asus Maximus X Hero for this build and it just requires a BIOS update for the 9th gen chips.
The 9700K gives up hyper-threading, though. Is...
I don't know about a global community, but my country's local PC forum is a wealth of information filled with many knowledgeable people.

I live in South Africa and out here we make do with what we have access to so there are a lot of mavericks doing weird and wonderful...
I would think that if you have configured certain kexts, DSDT, SSDT, edits etc for one specific build there could be conflicts that prevent boot if you attempt to boot of another machine with different chipsets? But yeah, macOS is both hardware specific and agnostic.
Cheers :)
Thanks @Robotronic. I can imagine that an existing installation wouldn't work. But that still isn't a good sign.
I think we might just have to stick with a Z370 board.
Cheers :)
Hi all,
A friend of mine wants me to build him a new Hack. The only problem is that we need to stick with Gigabyte AORUS motherboards (for Thunderbolt support) and here in South Africa the Z370 boards are now few and far between. We originally chose the Gaming 7 because it offers enough M.2...
I have a couple of DP to DVI adapters but they never seem to work. I will give it a try but I ended up just installing a Sierra VM in VMWare Player as a test bed and somewhere to create installers. Would be nice to have a dedicated hack but I work on and need Windows on this machine anyway so...
Just wanted to note that the installer will boot all the way in both vanilla and verbose mode. The boot process is fine and I can see all the relevant hardware passes. It's just when the GPU initiates that I get nothing.
Very bizarre.
Cheers :)
I've tried DVI and HDMI. I have a triple display setup. I've tried each single display and multiple. All three displays register signal but the screen is black. They don't turn off and go into power saving mode.
I've tried installing from different media along with all the other kexts...
Ok so VMWare was helpful to install High Sierra to the drive, but it still boots to black screen. I've tried all I could find. RadeonDeInit, Whatevergreen and Lilu kexts, all the relevant Radeon kexts, DSDT patch, etc etc.
I just cannot get my RX 480 to produce signal after the Apple logo...
I can't read that fast! Haha.
But yes, I see what you're saying. I always see IO and USB messages near the end of the boot process while in this diagram it's at the beginning.
Maybe it's helpful if you reverse it?
Cheers :)
I've taken a totally different approach on this.
I have booted into the install USB with VMWare and installing on an external drive with that. Seems to be working. Will then install Clover, patched DSDT and kexts thereafter. At least that will let me update to 10.13.6 and hopefully...
1986. My dad was an accountant (RIP) and bought an IBM Compatible when I was 6 for his work. Intel 8088 4.7Mhz, 640KB RAM, 20MB HDD, orange monochrome CGA display, etc. He let me play on it when he was around but I wasn't allowed to touch it otherwise.
He died two years later from a brain...
