Yep, the Radeon Pro WX 5100 is listed in the OpenCore GPU Buyers Guide but the used prices are through the roof (£350-£500 GBP / UK). Same goes for any recommended GPU at the moment, most are retailing at almost double the regular price if you can find anything. Sticking with a EVGA GeForce GTX...
Solved – Yes and No (but yes)
Cutting panels in cases is a solution as long as the card is contained inside the outer panels or decorative plastic. With the Cooler Master Elite 110 case there's a gap between the inner metal chassis and the plastic front panel which accommodates the front fan...
I need a dedicated GPU for a particular video app I use. The solution for the Cooler Master Elite 110 case is to cut out a section of the metal panel at the front to gain another 30mm for a slightly longer card. Not sure why case manufacturers create these problems but a few mins with a Dremel...
Hi,
What are the current (2021) recommendations for a short AMD GPU for a Mini-ITX case?
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97N Gaming 5
RAM: 16Gb
GPU (current): EVGA GeForce GTX 650 2GB (Nvidia)
Case: Cooler Master Elite 110 (max GPU length 210mm / 8.3 inch)
Cheers,
I would be interested to hear what BIOS version (F3-F5) people are using for GA-Z97N Gaming 5 (Rev 1.0) with OpenCore. I'm wondering if there's a stable set up for this board.
One thing I've noticed is that if the system starts up and the GPU fan remains at full speed the POST has failed and I...
Ok, so this sounds like a good heads up for a really confusing issue. I'm hoping that if I boot from a Clover or Linux drive I should be able to get into the BIOS. Once I've checked the BIOS settings I wouldn't need to go in there normally. Thanks for posting the link to the thread, an...
Update III:
Ok, its rebooted but I obviously have something which is failing or the BIOS upgrade is creating issues. Will downgrade the BIOS to F3 which was stable for 'years'.
Update II:
Ok, so I do have a problem somewhere. I've been working on my OpenCore audio issue and wanted to check the BIOS settings and tried to access the BIOS on reboot. The same issue I described on the original post came back and now I have a black screen and the machine is not passing post...
Update:
Amazon just delivered a new keyboard (£9 plastic fantastic) and I was able to get into the BIOS. My regular keyboard a Cherry KC 6000 just wouldn't work for some bizarre reason. So back up and running!
Hi,
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97N Gaming 5
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 650
I've been working through learning OpenCore and everything was going reasonably well apart from the audio which I've been reading up on and trying various solutions. OpenCore loads super fast and seems...

Before the USB issues started happening my main problem was audio and to get around this I would use an external USB sound card. However with the switch to 10.11.xx the USB ports on my board were almost useless and the software fixes inconsistent.
So after many weeks of testing various USB fix...
Yes, GA-H97N-WIFI are hard to source on Amazon UK and out of stock on Newegg UK but the Gigabyte Z97N Gaming 5 still available and discounted so that may be the one to go for. Guessing there must be a replacement coming soon.
The Gigabyte GA-Z97N-WiFi motherboard has been the recommended mini-ITX option for a long time now and I'm wondering what the other options are? Also the GA-Z97N-WiFi board is expensive and becoming harder to source on Amazon which could indicate its on the way out and will be replaced soon...
3rd Party USB 3.0 - GenericUSBXHCI.kext Working in 10.11.2
GA-Z87X-D3H - 10.11.2 + GenericUSBXHCI.kext
No joy on that, reset the BIOS to defaults and checked the various options for USB. Still the same situation and error message "USB Device Needs Power".
So currently I have x6 USB3...
3rd Party USB 3.0 - GenericUSBXHCI.kext Working in 10.11.2
Having issues on a GA-Z87X-D3H, USB ports working for keyboard, mouse, external sound card (Focusrite) and midi controller but not storage devices. The following warning pops up when I attach a storage device "USB Device Needs Power"...
