    Hackintosh in the future

Please re-phrase that: "The freedom to use any [PC] components." As freely as a PC let you use them. But how free is that? It's quite a mixed bag. Mac was never PC and no one with clear thinking is confused about this. It's an obvious a point of history. And it's Apple's main selling point...

    Hackintosh in the future

Some of this was in the T and T2 which was the beginning of AppleSi in Mac. Then in M series, the units of T2 were integrated into a set of chips, which is where the SSD controller moved out of the "drive" the way we think about NVMe and SATA and the drive flash became an adjunct to the chipset...

Down to my last problem; is wifi/BT supported on Asus Z590?

This is covered in the Dortania Post Install Guide regarding CSR / config lock or something like this... I can't recall the lingo, but OS needs to write some status in nvram at shutdown but can't. Peruse the Post Install Guide.

    Samsung 990 Pro

I have an alternative point of view. Boot delay is based on the amount of free space in the APFS container and should remain nearly constant. It might be affected somewhat by fragmentation but probably not much. So you should expect that the boot delay is proportional to the amount of free...

[HOW TO] USB ports map for macOS with USBToolBox

(Edited to correct and expand) USB 3 and USB 2 (+USB 1) are separate circuits in the same socket and appear as distinct "ports" for mapping, each counting against the 15 max per root hub controller. When mapping, these are sometimes referred to as companions because they share a socket. You can...

ddrescue-helper.sh — A Script for Running GNU ddrescue

Thx for the proofread! I'm concerned about these kinds of typos and edge cases in the script itself. I love working with the shell because it's so powerful, but it's also messy due to text substitution glitches causing the meaning of the program can change as it runs. Typos, formatting...

ddrescue-helper.sh — A Script for Running GNU ddrescue

Announcing ddrescue-helper.sh, a bash script to make using GNU ddrescue easier on macOS (and soon Linux) https://github.com/c-o-pr/ddrescue-helper OVERVIEW If you have an older spinning hard drive, you may have run into problems with read errors preventing access to some files, or the drive...

    General NVMe Drive Problems (Fatal)

I don't have answers for your questions on iomapper config, but I can wave my hands to explain that MMIO is memory-mapped IO and DMA in the context of VT-d, with all the attendant security implications of letting hot-plugable PCIe devices (Thunderbolt) and VMs rummage around in the underlying...

    General NVMe Drive Problems (Fatal)

No one thinks WD is a panacea. It's just a go-to concern when discussing 3rd party NVMe issues. After surveying the googz on the "loss of MMIO space" panic, I'm thinking as follows: (I am not up to speed on your builds / context so if this doesn't pertain just dismiss it) There's io mapper...

    General NVMe Drive Problems (Fatal)

I feel your pain... Re "loss of MMIO space", I'm ignorant of that syndrome. My problem with Sabrent was Rocket 4 with Asus z590 (2021) Big Sur and everything seeming to work for a couple weeks, then drive seizing and losing all my data. Then after RMA the replacement drive seemed to work for...

    General NVMe Drive Problems (Fatal)

There is no science of compatible NVMe drives and there never has been. The advice to stick with WD is nothing more than there being no history of pathology, not because of engineering correctness. NVMeFix has always been explicitly about power management work-arounds not reliability, so it's...

    NVMe in external enclosures disconnecting

I use a couple of Sabrent toolless NVMe 10Gb USB-C with 4 diff SSDs and never seen a glitch with enclosure. These connect both via the rear C and the front case C port with its header and long cable. Both work great. The rear ports (TB4) don't remount the drive after a reboot until I physically...

Fun with your Hackintosh: Stable Diffusion and AI Generated Images

The previously posted prompt guide is helpful. It showed me about order and positive / negative emphasis via () and [] and ways to think about styles in terms of influential artists and media, range of effects. I'm gaining a better sense of the limits imposed by training. Getting a model to...

Fun with your Hackintosh: Stable Diffusion and AI Generated Images

Ah, noted. Thx. The more I look at prompts, the more perplexed I become about what's going on. 3/4 of that prompt+style looks vague, repetitive, impossibly subjective, ambiguous ad absurdum, or contradictory. For example: no background, city background (if order matters and "no" comes...

Display iSight Camera outputs pixelated green screen after installing Sonoma

Search the Macrumours Unsupported Macs forums for posts describing this problem. But fair warning OCLP guide says no matter what, Ventura+ will never be made fully compatible with 2012 CPUs due to need for AVX2 instructions, which arrived in 2013. You might be stuck at Monterey. OCLP scene has...

    Mini PCs

I am onboard with these mini PCs. Last Jan, I got a Beelink with a 4-core 11th gen Celeron, 8G, 500G mSATA, dual HDMI (UHD 630), dual 1000BT, Wifi ac BT4, miniPhono+TOSLink, USB3 inc type-C 3.2 gen2 port, and Windows 11 Pro installed. $190. After spending several hours goofing around, I...

Frequently "Aw snap error 11" on Chrome after update to Sonoma

I think that error means that a support process for the window or tab crashed. Look for help on Chrome debugging, such as logs, to find what is crashing. It might be a plugin or extension edge case, esp regarding an accelerator, eg GPU. Next those who have this problem, compare notes, what...

<< Solved >> Partition map needs to be repaired. Recovery mode??

Also look into what makes a mac drive bootable. It might be that in your case the advice to use repairDisk is the right solution— per previous man page quote, it fixes boot structures on the drive. I haven't used it myself, so I'll leave this for you to study...
