I am so confused about upgrading to Ventura...

Definitely go the OpenCore route. Just realize that it's not going to be a "three clicks and you're done" type of experience. Block out some time when you can focus and read up on how to make this work--the Dortiana guide and relevant threads on this forum. What you are trying to do is not easy...

Recommendations for Upgraded Parts that Will Run Ventura

Can I spoof from Skylake to Kabylake while still running Monterey, then do the upgrade to Ventura? Or how does that part of the process work?

I was thinking that might be the case, which is why I asked. Thank you.

OK thank you very much. I will pursue these options and stay with my current build.

Recommendations for Upgraded Parts that Will Run Ventura

It's come to my attention that my build (Core i7 6700K - Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 TH - AMD RX 580) will not run Ventura. I realize that at some point I will need to switch to a real Mac (Studio or Mini probably), but for now I would like to explore the option of upgrading my CustoMac. Would it be...

Apple 'Far Out' Event: September 7, 2022

I also find this pretty simple. Definitely not "complex." I will probably always go for the Pro model because of the faster processor and better camera.

Apple Logo Then Black Screen - Monterey Install - GA-H270N-WIFI - Kaby Lake

Not so fast... Whenever the system sleeps, I can't get the monitor to wake up and end up having to reboot. Anyone know a fix for this?

Apple Logo Then Black Screen - Monterey Install - GA-H270N-WIFI - Kaby Lake

I wanted to report here for future strugglers that I have now fixed this. I have 1536 MB of VRAM and the monitor is recognized. Two things: 1. Remove device-id property completely. 2. Add boot argument: igfxagdc=0 Also, none of the framebuffer properties seem to make a difference so I...

Can Someone Explain Hex Swapping Please?

I'm trying to get my Intel HD 630 graphics working under Monterey with OpenCore and want to try some different frame buffer settings. But I'm completely confused by the whole hex swapping thing. I'm sure it's probably really simple, but it's one of those things that everyone seems to assume you...

Apple Logo Then Black Screen - Monterey Install - GA-H270N-WIFI - Kaby Lake

Removing the "framebuffer" entries highlighted below makes ZERO difference. Having those there neither helps nor hinders. Looks like I've hit a brick wall here. Thanks in advance if you can shed any light. Should I be posting about this in the Post Installation>Graphics section?

Apple Logo Then Black Screen - Monterey Install - GA-H270N-WIFI - Kaby Lake

The install completed and I have been able to boot to the desktop. It looks like everything is working as expected EXCEPT the HD 630 graphics. The screen is very unresponsive and according to the "About this Mac" splash screen there is only 8 MB of VRAM. When I boot to Catalina (Clover) I have...
