    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

I opted to remove the EFI completely, restarted, then no boot option appeared at all. Seem that EFI was somehow the bootloader for Windows. Fortunately I was able to reinstate the EFI and make it bootable by following this guide. Happy days. I’m now back in business. I’ll grab the swappable M2...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

Oh boy, do I feel like an idiot now… I followed your instructions and reset CMOS by loading optimised defaults in the BIOS, but the Windows option was still there following restart. I couldn’t believe it. So, I checked the ‘boot priority’ menu, in an attempt to force disable the windows option...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

Apologies if I seem impatient, but can anyone point me in the right direction? I've searched and can't seem to find examples that map to this issue. The 'Reset NVRAM' is present as an option, but when selected, the machine reboots with no change to the menu. Is there anything else I could...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

I've attempted to 'Reset NVRAM', but it appears to have no effect. When selected, the machine reboots, but the same boot options remain, Windows included. There is no Windows drive physically connected to the machine. I've also double checked the OS EFI and there's definantly no 'Microsoft'...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

Thanks Edhawk. I just want to double-confirm something. I have a text list that looks like this: 1. Windows 2. MacOs 3. Recovery 11.2.3 4. OpenShell.efi 5. Reset NVRAM As per your suggestion, I should just select option 5. Curiously, If I allow the the bootloader to roll into the Windows...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

I'm back in action. Thanks for confirming Edhawk. I removed the 'Microsoft' folder, and copied it back to the EFI folder on the Windows drive. This seems to have completely resolved the issue. I am now able to boot into MacOS or Windows as before. Once I get my hands on the swappable M2 PCIe...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

Understood. Thanks. Could I attempt something as crude as removing the 'Microsoft' folder from the EFI folder and expect it to solve the boot issue? Or am I better off removing the 'Microsoft' folder and replacing the contents with that of the boot key? Just being ultra-cautious as I'm worried...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

Thank you ts96, I'll study the guide. Is there any possibility that I might attempt to repair the EFI folder as is, without having to re-install MacOS? I'd be keen to understand what 'hot swap' options I might be able to consider. As mentioned, each OS is instaled to an M2 drive, (one of which...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

Hi all, back in the saddle again. As previously mentioned, I can only boot into MacOS with the Windows SSD connected. Using the original usb key, I've booted into MacOS and backed up all my files in case of failure. I've prepared to attempt to replace my internal EFI with the one from the...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

Okay, so this is just getting stranger. I've attempted your suggested process. I removed the Windows drive, leaving just the MacOS drive. I selected the usb drive to boot, but no MacOS option appears at the boot menu. The only available options are: Install macOS Big Sur (external)...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

I'm going to sleep on this for now. I've posted this late for my time zone, not really expecting so many responses so soon. I'll check back again tomorrow and pick up any further replies. Thank you all.

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

Yes, however, I did make a few post-install tweaks to get audio and networking working that I'd prefer to regain. Those tweaks aren't on the USB EFI. Also, as I mentioned. When I mount the EFI, all the files for OC appear to be present on my MacOS SSD. But for some reason it's not working. Is...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

I did consider this, but I haddn't been using Windows before this occured. I rarely do. The previous day, I had been using MacOS as normal. The following day, no bootloader. I must confess to being quite novice at this. I'm good at following instructions in guides, but beyond that, it's a...

    Opencore bootloader suddenly not working

Hello all, I'm really hoping someone can help me troubleshoot this odd situation. I built my hackintosh following this guide. My spec is largely idential. I've had no issues with the build, everything has worked seemlessly. However, out of the blue, the bootloader just stopped working. When...

Hello all. I wondered if anyone close to this thead might be able to help me. It's been a while since I accomplished this build, everything has been perfect, but this morning when I switched on my machine, the boot loader failed to load. I've had to use my original usb boot drive to launch...

AFAIK using that processor shouldn't make a difference. It's supported. As for noise, it all comes down to the case and fans. I used a Fractal Define R5 from a previous build. Fractal make great low noise cases at a fair price. For the fans, I went all out on Noctua low-noise fans. They're...

I've installed the recommended Wifi card and now have internet, happy days. I will look into Open Core more thoroughly and attempt to repair the Ethernet in the future. It's certainly true that OC makes the process more transparent, I'm very interested in learning more.

@shilohh My deepest thanks for writing such a comprehensive guide. I followed it to a "T" and had no issues with installation. Similar to others who have commented in this thread, I am having trouble with Ethernet. It appears as connected, but there's no internet connection. I've installed...
