I know this is a terrible old thread. Do the steps change at all if you are using an external USB 3.0 Clone drive? I have done the steps above except for pulling the SSD from my laptop. Right now the boot is just stalling when I pick the external Clone in Clover. I am using Mojave 10.14.6and APFS.
