    First Build PC

In the BIOS there are boot order options - if you've swapped the devices it may be confused as to which device it's meant to boot from. Each SATA port is numbered and distinct. If you hit "Choose Boot Disk" or something similar (F12 on Gigabyte boards pre-OS Boot) then you may see your PC HD...

how to give a hard memory limit to an application

If you go to File > Get Info > Memory.. ...sorry just having a wee nostalgic joke. From the little bit of coding that I now, if the program thinks it needs more RAM, it's gonna nom up more RAM. What happens when it's used up all the available disk space for swap? Does it crash...

    Apple Macbook Pro to Desktop

Repair it properly and sell it. Or just stick it under the desk: plug in monitor, keyboard and mouse. Bingo, "desktop". Having been down the laptop as a desktop route in the past, I'd advise you to fix it and sell it on. Ready to rock, rather than sold as a 'some work required' item.

    Elementary OS Luna

Wow nice find, thanks for sharing. That's the nicest looking distro of Linux I've ever seen. Totally in danger of getting installed.... Also gives me a bit of hope for the day when Apple completes the iOS-ification of OS X and ruins it entirely.

How to convince my parents to let me get a Hackintosh/Gaming PC

£1500? Dude! Total overkill surely... try slashing the price a bit (unless your parents are minted). Yeah hackintoshing and PC building could be quite challenging for a 14 year old - you could try going some way to assuaging your parents' doubts about you being able to do it. But given that...

    bit of reassurance needed

Most hackintosh software is very open about what is installed. While tonymac tends to package everything up neatly and let you run a 'hands-off' install, most hackintosh stuff will describe what it does and how it does it. There are often manual instructions incase you don't want to run...

    10.9.2 and 7970... Again!

Hmm, that sounds like bad luck, although 'crashes' is a very vague problem description. I'm running a 7870XT (poor man's 7950) and it works fine, although is detected as 7xxx. I haven't upgraded to 10.9.2 yet as it seems to have caused more problems than anything else for graphics whereas...

    10.9.2 and 7970... Again!

Hey man, graphics enabler no should work for you ok

    280x Not recognised by Mavericks

Hey man I'm running 10.9.1 and I don't see any drivers for that model - it may not be supported. Perhaps the updated graphics drivers in 10.9.2 support your card?

how many of you have actually gone mac?

I went from Macs to Hackintoshing. Last Apple I purchased was an £1400 MBP that was fit for the bin in two years due to crappy BGA soldering on the video chip. Apple didn't want to know and a guy at the store even said that's 'normal lifetime' for a laptop. Anyways, I definitely didn't want...

    Sapphire HD 6450

I've got the same card and it definitely works ok. All I can think is make sure that you're using a correct DSDT, try a different PCI slot and you could try experimenting with framebuffer personalities (I think motmot worked ok when I was running 10.6.8 - it should be fine native in Mavericks...

    AMD 7870 Broken Screen Issues

Have you got a working DSDT? Also did you remove the IGPEnabler entry from your boot .plst? If the card works fine in the x8 slot you could always leave it there, I doubt you'll notice any difference in day-to-day performance. It could also be worth trying different framebuffer...

    Z77-DS3H and i7-2600k... can't install 10.9.1 with unibeast

Check how much VRAM is assigned to the intel graphics, can't remember off the top of my head what plays nice - I'm sure a forum search would turn up some suggestions. I noticed that I had to update my DSDT to boot into Mavericks successfully but then again my system is quite different.

    AMD 7870 Broken Screen Issues

Disable onboard graphics? Why do you have them enabled? 7870 should boot fine natively with graphics set to PEG in BIOS.

Use Mavericks 10.9 drivers in Snow Leopard 10.6

Ahh-so the task is on the scale of difficult to impossible. I guess that makes sense. Well I'll continue learning more about coding and mac development and keep it in the back of my mind while my skill grows. It'd be worth it if I can do it, however I'll not hold my breath for a quick...

Use Mavericks 10.9 drivers in Snow Leopard 10.6

My coding skills are very much in their infancy. I'm studying engineering at the min and there is a module on C++, I've picked up a bit from Hackintoshing (like device ids in plists and so on) and while I've done a couple of XCode tutorials... most of them went over my head. I've poked around...

Use Mavericks 10.9 drivers in Snow Leopard 10.6

Anyone know if this is possible? My 7870XT works a treat in 10.9 but ain't happy at all in 10.6.8 - which, at this stage, I'd quite like to downgrade to (Mavericks has broken too much of my software!). I've tried just dropping the kext over and that does not work, does anybody have any ideas?

    Help with Sapphire 6450 1GB

Hi there, I'm using a setup with two GPUs, one of which is a 6450 and it works fine with GraphicsEnabler=No in Mavericks. Before that I was using the personality Motmot. You should be able to get it working fine, mine's been behaving itself since 10.6! EDIT: Just noticed you're using mountain...

    I screwed up big

Hey man, if you ain't already fixed it this might work for you - if you have a backup stored as a .dmg then you could boot from a Mac OS USB installer and clone your working image back on to your HDD. I'm not sure how easy that would be if you're using just one hard drive though.. You may need...

    mavericks on ga-p55a-ud3

Hi there, I managed to get my P55-UD5 running ok. Try downloading the DSDT for your board from this site, helped me a lot with getting Mavericks to play nice. My own DSDT that I've been using since 10.5 did not work well with mavericks! If you're already running hackintosh then use your...
