I've got the same card and it definitely works ok. All I can think is make sure that you're using a correct DSDT, try a different PCI slot and you could try experimenting with framebuffer personalities (I think motmot worked ok when I was running 10.6.8 - it should be fine native in Mavericks...

Have you got a working DSDT? Also did you remove the IGPEnabler entry from your boot .plst? If the card works fine in the x8 slot you could always leave it there, I doubt you'll notice any difference in day-to-day performance. It could also be worth trying different framebuffer...

Check how much VRAM is assigned to the intel graphics, can't remember off the top of my head what plays nice - I'm sure a forum search would turn up some suggestions. I noticed that I had to update my DSDT to boot into Mavericks successfully but then again my system is quite different.

Disable onboard graphics? Why do you have them enabled? 7870 should boot fine natively with graphics set to PEG in BIOS.
