This was a new issue that started for me when I upgraded to Mavericks. I only have this issue on my i5 machine. The i7 does not. Unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging in will bring it right back. The i7 also has a newer version of the monitor that I have on the i5.

Try booting from your Unibeast stick, select your os hard drive. Then see if it will stay unfrozen long enough to use Multibeast. This procedure gave me enough time to do everything.
Have you tried using the Multibeast version (5.4.1) that was released tonight? I was having freezing issues last night and this afternoon after using 5.4.0 last night. Using 5.4.1 cured the problem for me.
Try moving your hard drive sata cable to a different port on the motherboard. I had the same problem and I had to do this to get past that particular screen.
Sorry, I was thinking about setting this build up like my windows machine. 1 drive for storing music, 1 for os, 1 for storing programs and work files, 1 for backups. I wasn't planning on doing raid, but if that is recommended, I will look into it.
