That workaround unfortunately doesn't work for me. Even with pulling the power plug on the monitor. The problem is the DP itself. It has to be changed from Port 1 to Port 2 on the graphics card (or vice versa at the next boot). Plugging it in at the same port again doesn't work.

I got it working. I have a dual cpu system with two PCI buses. I switched the card to another slot and it started working right away (10.13.5).

Cloned the drive, formatted it as APFS and cloned it back. No more strange delays during booting and the performance is back. <phew> (1800 read/write)

I converted the drive to APFS. Now the write speed is down to 200MB/s. This is ridiculous. I have no idea how to fix this.

No, I avoided that since many people reported to stay away from APFS on a hackintosh for now. The performance was fine on HFS+J on Sierra (1700 write/read).
