Update - Working 4k Catalina HD Graphics 530
GA-Z170N-WIFI + Skylake i3 6100 + nvme SSD
It was indeed a framebuffer issue, I missed some of the options in Hackintool.
The key aspect was...
Update:
Small improvements, using Hackintool again, and understanding it this time...<partially at least>.
HD530 & Skylake
PlatformID = 0x19120000
GPU ID = 0x19128086
Model = 17,1
Framebuffer VRAM is now 2048MB
Connectors are all correctly identified (didn't seem to make a lot of difference)...
Thanks, nice to hear I'm not alone!
There's clearly a LOT of info in the small print, and every detail might be important, cripes!
Cut a long story short <too late, ed.> Read the Idiot's Guide to Lilu.
So here's the whole story in case someone else has a Z170N-WIFI motherboard & Catalina...
Hiya,
Still battling away. Over and over again I try...(74 failed boots and counting)
Got completely lost probably falling between two stools.
So destroyed it all & started all over again, awaiting the answer - Lilu or Multibeast?
So the current install method seems to be:
boot from USB & use...
Hi Guys
Thanks for the install guide, through a number of hoops I got Catalina installed...quite the struggle, but it's booting now, kind of.
Unfortunately it's not quite finished. <thanks to P1LGRIM for that nudge which worked in Sierra and helped me get to Catalina boot media>
I was very...
...and somehow I found one! (i tried them all!)
For no apparent reason I found a Samsung 16g flash drive, which worked & I built a Catalina Installer.
Replaced the nvme drive with a new one (in case the installer was broken!)
Installed Catalina exactly by the book...
Then I got to Multibeast &...
Thanks again for that, at least I now have a desktop I can work with!
One strange thing though, I'm trying to write a Catalina installer on a 16GB usb stick, and none of my 16GB flash drives seem to be recognised. I even bought 3 new SanDisk 16gb drives hoping they'd work.
Very weird - all my...
Wow, how do you know such stuff?
I'm impressed and happy, thanks for that nudge, it's now working
I think I can prep a new install USB & move on from there I think...probably!
All the best

Hi Guys,
I installed High Sierra on my Z170N-WIFI with i3 cpu and 16GB and an NVME drive a while ago, using these guides & it was v.g. all round, thaks to those who write them - much appreciated.
A bit glitchy at the top left of the screen sometimes, but it all worked - dual booting win10 too...
Hi Jithin.C.V.
Sorry, couldn't figure out how to add picture locally, so did my usual "ooh I can work around that" ;-)
Just tried drag & drop - that worked!
Thanks for the assist, I've continued to experiment (lots) to try & work out what's going on & I've made a lot of progress...I will write...
Hi Guys,
Not getting to stage 1 with my build.
Really struggling to replicate anyone's results with Z170N-WIFI, SSD, HD530 onboard graphics.
Done unibeast, got USB stick with Sierra installer;
Installed on SATA SSD ok, booted with USB, and gone through installation process
Rebooted to do the...

Here is a screen shot of the difference between download & upload speeds.
Download from Samba on Ubuntu = 125MB/sec received
Upload to Samba on Ubuntu = 785 KB/sec
I figure those units are Mbits/sec and...
Hi Guys,
FYI, pretty successful vanilla install on fresh SSD with my "old skool" G41m workhorse, which has run (almost) everything from probably as far back as Snow Leopard, pretty successfully on the whole.
As for El Capitan, all went pretty much according to the guide (Thanks TonyMac)...
Hi Guys,
Updating my setup to Mavericks with some trepidation!
Gigabyte G41M-ES2L & Q8300, with Geforce 9500GT HDMI card & SSD. Pretty sweet system, been reliable through MANY versions.
Spent a wee while staring at a rebooting machine, and found a few disparate notes which helped:
