I get your idea with going for H470 instead of Z490. The prices difference could be quite large, given the amount of power needed on th Z-boards to power to K processors. But the board, you are specifiyng doesn't have a Thunderbolt port, does it? I can't see it mentioned on the product page.

Should the power consumption be higher or lower for a Polaris 21 core? Here it is listed with a Polaris 21, but still 40W: AliExpress

I have not tried it, but this low profile RX 550 is listed with 640 cores, with shipping from UK: ebay.co.uk The 640 cores should be a sign of a Polaris 21 core, according to trs96: Post #2400 You can find the Yeston advertised with Polaris 11, 12 and 21, so I am not sure what is correct...

That MSI RX 550 4GT LP OC looks very interesting! I'm not in the US, but the same model is available in Europe as well. How can I tell if the models sold here have the RX480 processor? Is it just a game of luck, or do all the MSI RX 550 4GT LP OC have an RX480 processor?

Yes, it was rather straightforward. Not soldered, as far as I remember. I don't know if the PSU-fan speed is controlled or not. You could find out be detaching the other fan and then changing the settings in BIOS.

The processor will be just fine, I am running High Sierra on a i5-3570. GFX should work as well. I not very knowledgeable about motherboards, so I can't tell you much there.

So no problems with 10.13.3, webdrivers and lag with this MB?

Yes, at least that is what I have experienced. It runs without acceleration and at lower resolution until the drivers have been installed.

Without being an expert I would try VoodooHDA.

I see. That is true as far as I know. But it is strange, since enabling older pc with higher resolution output is a very fine use case for such a low power card.

It’s not the only one with DP - there is also a sister model with a fan and only single slot width.

High Sierra on a M2 NVME seems like a nice idea!

I assume it will work, but I only have one monitor and it doesn’t have DP, so I have no way of checking.
