    macOS 10.12.4 Update

Updated off combo update. Nvidia driver manager software found and downloaded the new drivers and installed. Update hosed the hdmi sound but everything else is working OK. This is a good result I think! :)

    macOS 10.12.3 Update

@KnoGo My guess is that the system is unable to access the user account. After an update this could easily be permission related. Have had this happen once or twice before on genuine Macs. The screen shot would indicate that you are operating the machine from a single user account with admin...

    kramz - Ruby Build - Sierra, Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5, i5-6600K 3.5ghz

@imablackhat have worked at "losing" my sound in various ways. On rare occasions waking from sleep when last set to HDMI sound output results in no sound. Sending to sleep again to the point where the monitor shows "no signal" and then waking it again has returned working sound. Not perfect, but...

    macOS 10.12.3 Update

Updated with the downloaded combo updater. Have found this update method to be the most reliable over the years. On first reboot, the nvidia software went looking for and "found" the latest nvidia update which was then installed. On reboot all working perfectly including sound. Nothing to do...

I have been using my audio differently, leave my headphones permanently in the audio port with sound prefs set to show in the menubar to switch to monitor speakers. Mostly operate off headphones however and have not noticed this. Will have to test sound outputs some more when time permits :-)

Great! Nice to hear that worked. I'd check where your sound System Preferences are set when you dont get front audio out.

That would be really frustrating. You didn’t indicate if you were using Sierra, or from a clean instal or an upgrade from an earlier version. In the build (read description), I used a specific kext. UtterDisbelief used a different one. His description is worth a read. Is either what you used...
