G5 USB 3.0 Front Panel and Audio

I would prefer to not have this thread closed, so I guess I'll have to shift my focus on creating more of an instruction manual to making you own PCB on a laser cutter. I'll probably have to wait until I get back from summer so I can experiment with my school's laser cutter, so I guess I'll have...

G5 USB 3.0 Front Panel and Audio

Also, I have a quick question to whomever is interested... would you be willing to cut or desolder the wires off the original power button in order to solder them onto the board? I cant seem to find the connectors that go on the pcb side of the board anywhere.

G5 USB 3.0 Front Panel and Audio

Sorry about not updating much, I think ill still be doing it over the summer unless I hit a major hurdle.

    My First Case Mod (G5)

So I guess it's time for an update to the Acrylic HDD cage. For my first time Laser Cutting, I ruined a 24 x 24 piece of Black 3mm Acrylic that I spent $25 on... ;( I went back to the drawing board and made a couple of changes so that that wouldn't happen again. In the mean time, I ordered...

    Motherboard tray advise needed.

if it has less than 8 slots, it will fit in the standard position, if you want more, you're going to have to move the motherboard down. To mount it, you basically need to cut a hole with the interior dimension of the tray, not the size of the flap you'll use to mount it and put screws through...

Mac G5 ATX Conversion - Noob Attempt 2

You might be able vets pending a little on the motherboard there for the G3258. Although I can see your rationale for doing so.

G5 USB 3.0 Front Panel and Audio

When I autorout, it ends up placing traces that are ugly as all hell and has too many vias to manufacture without too much cost. Also single FireWire connectors of the right type are impossible to find and the best I could do in that standpoint was $20 or so for a hundred pack of which I will no...

G5 USB 3.0 Front Panel and Audio

Designing the placement for a unified pcv is easy but routing to connectors is way to hard if I use FireWire. For the amount of people who want/use FireWire in the front, it's not worth the effort of routing and having manufacturing issues.

G5 USB 3.0 Front Panel and Audio

I'm using that USB 3.0 cable right now but it's really clunky and falls off every few days. The solder points are too far on the cable to be any use but I'll look into using them. As for the 4 contact headphone jack, not any random jack will work as you need sense and the ones that work are...

G5 USB 3.0 Front Panel and Audio

I still haven't gotten around to working on the audio part of the circuit, but in theory, it should detect headphone jacks being plugged in. As for the original power button, yes it will be preserved, but i can't guarantee the connector or wiring will stay.

    Acrylic ATX/mATX/mITX Motherboard Tray v2.0

I would suggest using an m5(or larger) rivet nut for screw holes or you can do some sort of screwless design. If you look at my main mod page, I just reused apple's PCI slots, and spliced another set onto it to make it 7 slots instead of 4. It holds pretty well and didn't require me to...

    Acrylic ATX/mATX/mITX Motherboard Tray v2.0

In the design, there are 3 parts, the first is it assembled side by side. The second is the members separated and put together and the third is put together to reduce space used. Of the hole sizes, there are two different sets. if you use 2mm or 3mm Acrylic, you put the big holes on the...

Possible to solder fan connections for OEM Mac Pro 2013 top fan?

I think the best you can do is to follow the traces on the PCB and see where that go. You might be able to use a multimeter and check for voltage or connectivity to the fan but theres not much you can do other than maybe find a pinout diagram online. I was just thinking that maybe if you were...

    Acrylic ATX/mATX/mITX Motherboard Tray v2.0

Sure, I'll send it to you. The point of the tray is so that it's easy to put in and remove and uses the least amount of material. You're gonna have to buy some sort of acrylic cement for the joints and you're going to need JB weld for the standoffs a to be mounted. I actually plan on having it...

    Acrylic ATX/mATX/mITX Motherboard Tray v2.0

So far, I've created two versions of this motherboard tray using 5mm Polycarbonate Backlight dispersion elements from old LCDs that I retrieved from a recycling shop I used to work for. Pre Tray Originally, I tried mounting the board on JB Welded standoffs which never could be perfect. The...

    Mountain mods motherboard tray

I made my own mob tray with acrylic and G5 Aluminum standoffs, and found that to be the far cheaper option. [Edit] I should probably make a guide for that as its really simple and doesn't take more than 2 drill bits and glue.

Could This Be The Next WLAN+Bluetooth Combo Card For 2013 MacBooks?

No since it uses a different connector than the gold fingered one, but the MBA 2011 cards are a lot cheaper and seem to have the same connector. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Apple-Macbook-Air-11-A1370-WI-FI-Card-BCM943224PCIEBT2-/281534052419?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item418cbcb843

    Hard drive caddy

No, It's an 8 Pin EPS connector, It has to be modified to suit the voltages, and thats what the diagram is for. If you just plug in CPU power, you will end up frying your derives and anything else connected to the cable. Since the grounds are sometimes connected on drives, you may even blow your...
