Is adding second GPU card worth speeding up Final Cut Pro?

I bought six cards very cheaply from an ex-miner, so I took the opportunity to build a dual GPU hackintosh. In my case I'm using Polaris RX 580 8GB cards and a 10th gen CPU but I expect the results would be similar with Navi cards. With Final Cut Pro 10.6.6, editing C4K h.264 footage shot on a...

Apple Silicon Mac Pro Revealed at WWDC 2023

I didn't say it was a fact. I said "it may be", meaning "it is possible", and "as much as", meaning "up to". I hope this clarifies, I don't know if English is your first language. The only facts I gave were Apple's 8% share of computer sales and their 14% share of the desktop OS market. The...

Apple Silicon Mac Pro Revealed at WWDC 2023

I think the hackintosh percentage is a lot higher than people think. If we look at OS share, on desktop in late 2022, about 14% of users were running macOS. Yet if we look at hardware sales, only about 8.6% of computers sold annually are Macs. So there's a large difference there, and it may be...

Apple Previews macOS 13 Ventura - Available Fall 2022

Yes it's the base model with 8GB /256GB. For comparison I edited the same 5 photos on the M1 MBA with 8GB/256GB and a 2016 Macbook with 8GB/256 in Lightroom. The M1 MBA wrote 52GB and the Intel MacBook wrote 1.6GB.

Apple Previews macOS 13 Ventura - Available Fall 2022

It writes up to 500GB/day to the internal SSD, depending on how many photos I have to edit in LightRoom, or if I'm editing videos in FCP. Editing one photo can write 10GB, so editing 50 photos in a session can hit 500GB in a few hours. With the M1 Macs, Apple put the boot firmware on the...

Apple Previews macOS 13 Ventura - Available Fall 2022

An M1 Mac isn't a long term solution. My M1 MacBook Air SSD is at 48% remaining life after 18 months. It'll be at 0% after 3 years, coincidentally the exact length of Applecare Warranty. Even if it's still working after that, what will the resale value be? Who would pay money for a computer with...

[Guide] Lenovo Legion y530-y540 Laptop on Catalina 10.15

Hi, the files I replaced to update OpenCore to 0.6.3 were EFI/BOOT/BOOTx64.efi EFI/OC/OpenCore.efi and all of the files in EFI/OC/Drivers/ To add the alc-delay property you need to edit your config.plist. I used a utility called "ProperTree" but you can also use PlistEditPro, or even just...

Audio only working one in every three reboots. Solved by adding "alc-delay=1000" property to device properties of audio device, as in image below.

Either works. Here is what I did - - Downloaded the most recent EFI from https://github.com/xiaoMGitHub/LEGION_Y7000Series_Hackintosh - Replaced the old 0.5.7 OpenCore included in that EFI to latest version 0.6.3 from https://github.com/acidanthera/OpenCorePkg - Updated Lilu, Whatevergreen...

[Guide] Lenovo Legion y530-y540 Laptop on Catalina 10.15

I have gone ahead and updated my Y530 to Big Sur 11.0.1. Performance is much better than the Beta, and so far everything is working apart from the Trackpad, which is not recognised at all. I switched from using Clover to Opencore, and updated OpenCore, Lilu, Whatevergreen, AppleALC and...

Has anybody installed Big Sur final on their Y530 yet, since it was released earlier today? Any issues? I tried the Beta some time ago, but it was laggy and fans were running all the time.

It doesn't work. Already tried with three different adapters. USB-C video output uses Displayport-alt mode which is connected to the unsupported Nvidia GPU. Only way to get a signal on external monitor with Lenovo Legion Y530/Y530 in macOS is to use an eGPU connected to NVMe socket via an NVMe...

[Guide] Lenovo Legion y530-y540 Laptop on Catalina 10.15

Making a hackintosh can't harm your laptop. That would be like a TV show breaking your TV. The Nvidia graphics card just won't be recognised by macOS, it will still work in Windows. I've been using Hackintoshes since 2012 and haven't had any bad effects other that a few sleepless nights when I...

I have tried a Startech USB-C to HDMI cable, a Dell USB-C hub with HDMI, and a UGreen USB-C to HDMI / USB hub. They all work when connected to USB-C port on a 2017 MacBook Pro, and they work on the Legion in Windows, but none worked on the Legion in macOS. It seems that the USB-C video is tied...

Hi, I have just bought an Apple BCM943602CS Bluetooth / Wifi board to replace the Intel 9560NGW in my Y530. The first few things I notice... First, there are three antenna connectors on the Apple card, labelled J0, J1 and J2 but only two on the Intel card, labelled Aux 1 and Main 2. How do I...

Thank you for all of your work on getting this working. I have a question. Double-clicking on the "EFI.zip" in the 3.0.0 release asks for a password. Do you know what the password is?
