May be that your CPU isn't able to handle more, but if you run 10.11+ do you have the graphics API set to Metal? (System > Advanced)
If you're still using El Capitan, setting it to Metal can cause a lot of GPU crashes since patch 7.1.5. I heard it's fine on Sierra.

A (partly defective) iMac 27" that works perfectly fine as a display for my Hackintosh, an old C2D MacBook, and an even older iBook G4 from 2004 that still does its job as a media server.
Your GTX 770 should take advantage of Metal in El Capitan, with or without the web drivers.
You can change the graphics API from inside WoW (it can still use both and was set to OpenGL for me on default).
System > Advanced > Graphics API. Make sure that is set to Metal. You'll need to relaunch...
With a fully working iMac you can just connect a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable, 2010 model still had Mini DisplayPort instead of Thunderbolt so that should work.

Its graphics card failed 9 months ago, replaced it with my Hackintosh. Still boots up fine after deleting graphics kexts and works well in target display mode.
The GTX 760 is natively supported. For the 960 you need to install Nvidia drivers.
I'm not 100% sure but I think you also need Yosemite to be able to install them for that card.
I'm on my first Hackintosh after my second iMac died. Well, the graphics card failed, and the hard drive long before. Boots up fine from an USB stick after deleting the ATI kexts though and since it's a late 2009 27" model I still use it as the display for my Hack :thumbup:
