I recently noticed that my USB3 ports no longer functioned at full speed. They did back in Yosemite days, so I surmise it was El Cap or Sierra that broke them, and I never noticed. Well, I now need full speed, so I followed the guide in Post #1, and was successful getting all ports correctly...

FWIW, I did a direct upgrade from 10.11.4 to 10.12.3 using, basically, the instructions in the OP. I followed some steps that I found necessary in the past, however, and you may or may not need to do any/all of them for success (and some may have created problems for me initially, not sure...)...

Nevermind, my hub was bad. I connected it to a Windows PC, and it only showed up as USB 2.0 there too. Got another one and all works fine. Frustrated because I assumed the cause had to be the hackintosh.... not so.

Hey man0072, you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problem with a GA-H97M-D3H... My hub has the same chipset as yours though I'm not sure if it is the B1 or B2 rev....

I had similar problems with the GBU521. For me, it wasn't a freeze at all, but rather Bluetooth randomly disconnecting and then reconnecting. Look in console and you may find some messages related to that. Solution for me was to connect the adapter through a USB 2.0 port.
