Make sure to boot with -v and -f in your boot flags. Also let it go for a good 10 minutes before you restart when it gets stuck- sometimes it will snap out of it.

I got ethernet working, I don't believe I added anything it just worked by default.
As for the sleep/wake, it will not work until Apple officially supports the processor. For right now we are out of luck for that.
Did you make sure to delete the previous .kext files in /USB/Extra/?
Also because you are using an Asus board try updating the bios, I remember hearing there were issues regarding that.

For me I got it to work with full graphics support once on the 970. Then never again. I returned the 970 yesterday in favor of a 770 (which has native OS X support). I do know there was a driver update released yesterday- maybe try using that?
