I'm glad it worked out for you. I too was looking in the card from osxwifi so hearing it works is a good thing.
Although you already solved the problem I wonder if this also would have worked. I read it in one of the reviews for the card on the osxwifi card:

So just out of curiosity if that's the issue would upgrading beyond 10.10.1 which the OP stated he was on be the answer to this issue and then simply upgrade the Nvidia web drivers to the correct version to match the new OS build which would presumably be the last dot update of 10.10?
not sure what Nv-Enable is.
Take a look at this for Nvidia web drivers and Sierra.

nvda_drv=1 is for pre-Sierra versions of OS X.
Try this:

That's pre-sierra. For Sierra the boot arg has changed.

Hope that helps.
It looks like the major improvement came somewhere between 10.10.5 and 10.11.3.

For me having a card that works well in both windows and OS X is necessary as I dual boot my system.
Hope that helps.
If you're only interested in render time perhaps you should look into Resolve 12.5. It sounds like you've already made you're mind up on which way you want to go though.
The difference in performance between AMD cards and Nvidia cards in FCPX seems to have definitely closed over the last year or so. Perhaps it's simply brute force but based on Bruce X the difference seems to have significantly closed and the Nvidia Web drivers seems to have increased...
1) Step 3 of the installation guide describes the BIOS settings that need to be adjusted. https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/unibeast-install-macos-sierra-on-any-supported-intel-based-pc.200564/
2) If it's listed in the buyer's guide I would feel fairly sure as a later generation board it would...
