Quadro K600 graphics card at Newegg - $39.99

Does an Nvidia GPU make sense at this point? Apple has moved away from Nvidia and switched to AMD throughout the line. Is an Nvidia GPU really a good recommendation in 2020, knowing it's got a shorter compatibility window with macOS? A low proile RX 560 isn't much more expensive and would seem...

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

Glad you worked things out with your build. I’ll have to check out that CPUFriend kext, sounds interesting, although at this point my various Hacks are so reliable I rarely check back in here anymore, especially since switching them all from MultiBeast to vanilla installations. FWIW since I...

Well, I read the rules but I’m afraid you’re going to have to be more specific. Thanks.

    << Solved >> 10.14.6 Supplemental Update Solved Sleep/Wake Problem

Now two of you have working sleep/wake with Skylake HD 530? I'll have to revisit this with my systems. Maybe sleep/wake works now that I've switched all my Hackintoshes over from Unibeast/Multibeast installations to vanilla. The Skylakes definitely had broken sleep/wake before.

    << Solved >> 10.14.6 Supplemental Update Solved Sleep/Wake Problem

Love to know what you did differently to make sleep/wake work with just the HD 530. Nobody else seems to have cracked the code. Other than using iMac 14,2 instead of the usual iMac 17,1 that’s more CPU-appropriate for Skylake, did you do anything else to fix the infamous Skylake sleep bug?

    << Solved >> 10.14.6 Supplemental Update Solved Sleep/Wake Problem

And you had working sleep/wake using just the onboard Intel HD 530 GPU, no PCIe graphics card added? Are you sure your whole system was really sleeping and waking, and not just the monitor? Broken sleep/wake with Skylake CPUs and the Intel HD 530 has been an unsolvable issue. You would be the...

    << Solved >> 10.14.6 Supplemental Update Solved Sleep/Wake Problem

When you say the update solved sleep/wake, do you mean your Skylake systems with Intel HD530 GPU? Broken sleep/wake has been an issue with this chipset and I’d love to hear that it’s been fixed, especially by an official Apple update.

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

Honestly, if your advice helps the OP, good for both you. I am not an expert here, only another end user offering his experience. We all have different priorities for our machines. My highest priority is FCPX stability and performance for both ProRes and H.264/x264 transcoding. I am wholly...

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

No, iMacPro SMBIOS is not the “only option”. Nobody needs to spoof an iMac Pro just to use dGPU only. I’ve been doing it for years with an iMac12,2 and later an iMac13,2 SMBIOS (see my post above). Why do you think forcing a Skylake Xeon SMBIOS on a Coffee Lake CPU is the “only option”? It...

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

Try changing your SMBIOS to iMac19,2 and creating an SSDT with ssdtPRGen to enable your BIOS overclock. It's always best to match the SMBIOS as closely as you can with your CPU, and that iMac happens to have your exact CPU albeit the unlocked version (no real Macs are overclocked, even the ones...

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

Are you saying Activity Monitor/GPU History isn't an accurate indicator of GPU workload? It sure is on my systems. Encoding out of FCPX my 280X is pinned the whole time. Lightroom, Photoshop and IINA show GPU decoding as well. Integrated Intel graphics pin GPU History when benchmarking Geekbench...

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

Sorry to break the bad news, I was hoping you’d cracked the code. As was stated before in this thread, Videoproc’s hardware encoding flags don’t mean GPU hardware encoding/decoding is actually enabled across the board with all your apps. In fact, on my Skylake system, Videoproc shows that...

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

When you say you have H.264 encode and decode with your RX580, what software are you using for H.264 encoding, and how are you verifying that it's the GPU handling the encoding instead of the CPU? I'm curious because I'm trying to determine if the RX580 has certain MacOS abilities my 280X...

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

Thanks for the feedback. As a fellow i7-3770K user (Q2 2012 in da howse) I recommend you try changing your SMBIOS in Clover to iMac 13.2 and generate an optimized SSDT for it with ssdtPRGen: https://github.com/Piker-Alpha/ssdtPRGen.sh If you’re not overclocking, just drop ssdtPRGen.sh into...

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

That’s interesting, I know that newer generations of Intel integrated graphics offer _faster_ IQS encoding, but are you sure they also offer _better quality_ as well? I was under the impression that the end result still looks the same. I know my Skylake system can do faster IQS encoding than my...

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

FWIW I have never gotten good FCPX performance on my i7-3770K/R9 280X system when the onboard Intel HD 4000 GPU was enabled and injected. I've followed all the guides and advice and different Clover boxes ticked and every time I enable Intel graphics alongside my AMD 280X, FCPX exports slow to a...

Does anyone know what happened to the Clover Configuration Wiki at https://clover-wiki.zetam.org? Ever since I switched from Chameleon to Clover as my hackintosh bootloader, this wiki has been an invaluable guide to the many intricacies of optimizing Clover. Over time I, like I’m sure many...

    Coffee Lake Budget Build - GA-H370M-DS3H + i3-8100 CPU

The board appears to have an HDMI port, why do you recommend adding an active DP-HDMI adapter to get 4K at 60Hz? Can’t the onboard HDMI deliver that already as long as the HD630 is properly injected? Also, prospective buyers should be aware that the HD630 does not sleep/wake under MacOS. You’ll...
