Working: Gigabyte GC-Thunderbolt 2 on Skylake (mostly)

@auwri Yeah they do, but with almost no stability. For instance: I boot into windows, reboot into mac - all my peripherals attached to the db display except for the daisy-chained thunderbolt drive do work. If I reboot and boot up macOS directly all of these devices won't be recognised. I still...

    carlossless's Reverse Hackintosh Pro

Hi everyone! I finally finished the write up for a project that did recently. This is my first PC/Mac mod project, so it's definitively not perfect. You can find the write up here: http://blog.carlossless.io/reverse-hackintosh-pro Comments, critiques and notes are welcome! Cheers...

Working: Gigabyte GC-Thunderbolt 2 on Skylake (mostly)

@Acden I use the adapter with a GC-ALPINE RIDGE card. It works fine with a thunderbolt display. I am assuming it will work fine with controllers that are embedded on the motherboard.

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

@tonyarnold I'm using the card with a Thunderbolt Display, and I've seen very inconsistent behaviour with not only the usb ports, but also daisy chaining harddrives and etc. I would like to know if anyone makes progress on this too!

ASUS ThunderboltEX 3 working with GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170MX-Gaming 5

Nice writeup man. It's good to see that all these thunderbolt controller cards from different manufacturers are intercompatible. Now if only we could get hot plugging to work on macOS...

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

So random status update, but I got this card to work!!! So you might ask what did I do to get it to work, well the answer is that I DON'T FLIPPIN KNOW!... Today, the ASRock TB 2 card was acting up on windows, so I thought I would give this one another shot. I had a hunch that maybe for some...

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

Just a bump regarding my status with the card. Tried a couple more times. The card doesn't work on macOS at all for some reason... ASRock Thunderbolt 2 AIC continues to be my daily driver. Cannot guarantee, but it worked with my MB and the latest BIOS.

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

Man this is so weird... I have the same version of everything except, my BIOS is F20, since GB released it finally, Clover is latest (3923) and SMBIOS is iMac 17,1. Anyway I could not get it to work, all of my TB devices hooked up to the card used to end up in this weird state where they were...

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

@basak, here's a list of questions for you: What BIOS ver are you using? F20 (the non beta)? macOS version? Thunderbolt Drivers/Firmware? Clover Version? System Definition? Thank you!

@genzai, already tried that. No cigar :(

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

@flux-capacitor Interesting news. I tried this method, but sadly it did not help. Checked with Hopper that the resulting code made sense. Anyway cool for Razer Core owners, I was wondering about the capabilities of that device and would be getting it when a new macbook pro comes onto my horizon...

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

@genzai, found the gigabyte page that has 21 firmware hosted on it here, but apparently that FW is only suitable for motherboards. (Again, I am not using the native port on the motherboard. I am using the addon card that started this thread). Did not look for a way to force installing it on the...

@genzai, hm, thanks for the tip, could you point to somewhere where I can get it?

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

Yeah, latest from gigabyte, firmware reports as 16.xxx, NVM version is also 16. Everything else seems okay. Still no idea what to do. I'm playing around with system definitions right now, but no cigar and it doesn't even seem close.

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

Well the adapter has full functionality when used in windows, including video, usb hub, networking (all of which are part of the thunderbolt display) and also daisy chaining. As I said, my thunderbolt display daisy-chained drive was working perfectly in windows. Also video works fine in macOS...

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

Well just to answer my own question here, it seems that both my Thunderbolt Display and my WD My Passport Pro work well daisy chained when used in Windows. So maybe Apple means strictly devices that have power supplied through thunderbolt? Either way, I'm still pretty confused with the way...

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

Hm, interesting. The wording is kinda confusing to me though. Are they saying that if you're using the adapter, you can daisy chain only one device?

    Thunderbolt mATX boards

@Xperiances I got this solved to some degree. I went with the GA-Z170MX-G5 and I got thunderbolt 1-2 working via the ASRock Thunderbolt 2 AIC card (it's compatible with the MB) and some custom UEFI firmware which can be found here. However I'm now trying to get Thunderbolt 3 up and running with...

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

Well I couldn't get it to work with 10.12.0, so I updated to 10.12.1. Got some kernel panics when it tried to load IOThunderboltFamilly.kext, but I moved it out out of /S/L/E through recovery, booted, moved it in and got it to load. (makes no sense to me too...). Still no progress however... I...

    GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

Alright, adapters are here! Couple of things to mention right off the bat: 1) macOS doesn't seem to see devices, even with the UEFI configured thunderbolt to legacy mode. 2) In legacy mode windows seems to still detect all attached devices and display their meta information. This is in contrast...
