I actually tried that last night and I wasn't clear on the end of it. After I added the perl code in terminal, what do I do after that. Last night I restarted my computer and it hadn't worked.

Indeed, I installed that chameleon on the mavericks HDD and now yosemite loads from the HDD. I found two kexts from insanelymac for HD4600 mobile graphics and I installed them and it worked on the USB but its not working on the HDD.

So I think I might have an idea what the problem is. I created a second partition on my main Mavericks drive, and only installed the new Chameleon on the Yosemite partition. Do you think it would work if I also installed it on my Mavericks partition?

Would it work if I installed Chimera 4.0 on the HDD instead of Chameleon?

Do I need to customize anything while installing Chameleon?

Chameleon 2.2 r2401 is what I installed.

I installed Chameleon to the HDD but I also get the cannot find mach_kernel error. And my org.chameleon.boot.plist file doesn't have the kernel string in there. Yosemite only loads off the USB.

Wow I feel like an idiot, I have been doing this with every OS X update, and I have learned better than that. I fixed my error, and I am now on the Yosemite desktop!

So I created the USB installer, I patched the kernel, got to the installer and installed Yosemite. I have tried a lot of boot flags to get to the desktop. It just restarts after a few seconds..can't even get it into safe mode.

Is it pretty easy to restore from backup on OS X? I have my whole laptop backed up through time machine. I'm wondering if I do a fresh install of Yosemite, would it be easy to bring everything back?

Is there a guide for users who are updating from Mavericks?

But I want to experiment and see what I need to do before I mess with my main HDD. Won't it be the same process with boot flags or whatever else I need to do?

I have Yosemite installed on an external hard drive, can I test that out with my laptop to see if it works and how I can get it running?

Does Yosemite need a patched kernel for Haswell users? Will all my boot flags work as is?

I'm using Chameleon bootloader. How would one patch for HD4600 graphics? And I don't think I patched anything else for Mavericks.

To update to Yosemite from my Mavericks machine, any main things to consider? Would it be as easy as installing it over my Mavericks HD?

I changed my IntelAzulFB from 12-13 and then I restarted computer and it boots up fine but right before the password lock screen comes up the whole display goes black and I can't see anything. Keyboard lights up and stuff still. Can't even load in safe mode, it does the same thing.

I do have chameleon.

So on my org.chameleon.Boot.plist it doesn't have the 0a260006 listed where I can edit it. It just says IGPEnabler = Yes, GraphicsEnabler=Yes, IntelAzulFB = 12..where can I go edit the 0a260006 to try some other ones?
