    2012 Mac Pro Specs: Xeon E5, Thunderbolt, USB3, PCIE3

I have an older PPC G5 (2006?) I'm thinking of selling. It still works, but the firewire ports aren't too stable for video. Anyway, I'm thinking I can at least get some money for the case if nothing else. You think there's a market? Is Ebay the best way to go?

Flashback Trojan infects hundred thousand macs a day!

What is the best anti-virus software to run on mac (something that isn't clunky and doesn't slow the system down)? Is Little Snitch all that is needed to get by? Or, do you recommend a complete anti-virus package?

Hey Discreet, any interest in building an ivy bridge machine when the chips are out? My parents need a computer, and they offered to buy mine at what it would cost me to build a new one. I'm thinking ivy bridge with an even better GPU. It would be great to choose a MB with as much support as...

@ ellisbodds, see the front page for the guide with Multibeast settings and all the rest. Awesome guide by discreet! :headbang: UPDATE ON OPTICAL SOUND: I can report that with Toleda's patched AppleHDA kext, the optical port on this board does output 2 channel spdif. I had to convert the...

@discreet, --What is "nstat lookup entry failed"? Is that specific to Nvidia cards? I don't get that error. --Thanks for the tip on the power management mod. I'm tempted to do it, but the thing is, I don't really use sleep, so I don't think I have a need for it right now. Does it improve...

10.7.3 up and running. Very easy. All I did was install the combo update. Before restarting, I checked "system utilities" and "Mac Pro 3,1" in Multibeast. I also needed to install the patched AppleHDA. I did not need to reinstall the ethernet driver. The problem with sluggish GPU after...

I may try 10.7.3 tonight. I'll post back with results. I hope this update fixes the sluggish GPU after sleep issue in Mac 3,1.

Issues with Steam come up every now and then on this board. So, I'm just writing a quick post that Steam is working perfectly in Lion on my setup. And yes, we should get a huge game going against rival MB owners. :headbang:

Re: Breakthrough Discreet, is this the HDMI to use for EVERY gpu? Or, is it specific to the quadro? I have a 6870. I created a DSDT for it but nothing shows up in system preferences. Question: Do you need an HDMI audio device plugged in to see it show up in system preferences? Or, should...

I'm not sure. My ram is 1.5v. I think it might be okay, because if I remember correctly, after switching the profile to "1", my voltage was listed at 1.2v. Also, I think the XMP profile is dependent on the type of ram you have installed. I don't think you can access XMP settings in the BIOS...

The front page MultiBeast settings are good. But, instead of the audio setting, I would go with Toleda's new AppleHDA driver linked to on the front page the other day. As for Bios settings, set your SATA ports to AHCI, and set HPET Mode to 64-bit. I started with the recommendations here...

Damn! Thanks for the heads up. Good thing I haven't purchased a card yet. I too am looking to have front ports working with back ports. Doesn't the Aaxeon state that the internal header is shared with the external 1394a port? I'm okay with them sharing the bandwidth, but I wouldn't want one...

Firewire issues are common. Discreet and a bunch of others have found errors listed in the console after wake (GUID not valid or something like that). The only solution I know is to purchase a card. I would purchase a card with an additional internal header so you can send it to your front...

I edited the F6 DSDT for HDMI out of my XFX-6870. Funny enough, I don't have any HDMI devices to test it with :D . If anyone has a discreet 6870 gpu and would like to give it a try, I'm attaching the edited DSDT. Make sure you back up your old DSDT before trying out this one. Good luck...

@titsmgee, I want to get HDMI out from my XFX-6870. From what you're saying, is it true that this now only requires a minor DSDT edit? If so, do you know what that edit should be, or can you point me in the direction to a guide I can use? Thanks!

Optimized AppleHDA for Realtek ALC 889 on Lion [OLD]

Re: New Optimized AppleHDA for Realtek ALC 889 on Lion I'm sitting at a real Mac Pro running Leopard right now. Under the MIDI Setup, I only get 44100, 48000 and 96000. Perhaps that's all you can specify in a mac, and that's why you aren't getting more options.

@titsmgee, do you have HDMI audio set up? Could you point me in the right direction? What do you mean by "time saver" with the new kext? I'm assuming you mean that it is optimized to run from an edited DSDT. However, I was under the impression that the DSDTs from the database have already...

Optimized AppleHDA for Realtek ALC 889 on Lion [OLD]

Re: New Optimized AppleHDA for Realtek ALC 889 on Lion Hi Toleda, thanks so much for the kext! I can report that it is successful on my z68xp-ud3p. Furthermore, my front port mic input is working! One thing I noticed. When I used the old kexts, I would hear crackling/hissing whenever I...

I'll try to look into the HDMI this weekend. Hopefully, we can post two DSDTs. One for enabling discreet GPUs and one for enabling onboard GPUs. That would only leave the kext edits, which seem more specific to individual cards.
