Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming build with working NVRAM

@pastrychef... Many months ago I asked about advancing from Catalina to Big Sur and this was your reply: If you are using the latest OpenCore EFI, just update macOS as you would on a real Mac. I'm running OpenCore 0.6.5 and as I understand the latest is 0.7.2. Your latest in this thread is...

I have a Samsung 970 Pro 512GB as my system drive. It is in the PCIe slot and has been running fine for 3+ months. Anyway, just a data point...

Oh, so you have to get on the Pacific Coast Highway?!?! Who Knew?!?! Where do you catch that? After the Slauson Cutoff? (And yes, you have to be of a certain age to know this!)

Is this the real end of hackintosh? M1 Macs

The cable used is the one that came with the monitor. It would seem unlikely that LG would supply an inferior cable. Functionally, the monitor is doing fine. Colors and resolution are fine. No ghosting, etc. I read that about the resolution while we were waiting for the M1 to arrive, but it...

Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming build with working NVRAM

Master Pastry Chef: 2 things: Without checking, I believe that you are on OpenCore. Did you need to make any changes to the config.plist or anything else before you did the upgrade to Big Sur? If I were to build a duplicate of my system, it would seem that the steps for the new machine would...

Is this the real end of hackintosh? M1 Macs

The curious thing is that this goes back to Catalina 10.15.2 which means that Apple hasn’t really addressed the issue for well over a year.

Is this the real end of hackintosh? M1 Macs

Not a problem. I wonder if the fact that the monitor that my wife bought for her M1 is a bit of an unusual resolution comes into play? Apple sells large screens, but no ultra wide screens. I’ve heard that some people have had difficulty in getting the M1 systems to recognize the native...

Is this the real end of hackintosh? M1 Macs

I know. We tried logging out AND restarting and it didn’t make any difference. It’s like Apple sort of ignored the rash of very high resolution screens available in recent times. People don’t buy very expensive ultra high resolution screens just to have to reduce their resolution. The menu bar...

Is this the real end of hackintosh? M1 Macs

Tried that on my wife's M1 Mini with no effect. Her monitor is 3440 x 1440. If you go down to 2560 x 1200, the next step down, yes, the menu bar is larger but you lose quite a bit of resolution. Catalina does not have that command: I'm on 10.15.6. As I understand the last update was 10.15.7...

Is this the real end of hackintosh? M1 Macs

There is no Menu Bar Size option in Catalina. I'll have to check the M1 tomorrow. Scaled settings are not an option. Not much point in having a high resolution monitor if you can't use it...

Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming build with working NVRAM

When I've run the machine without the side panels on, I think all of the fans were running. The only possible exception to that would be the 2nd fan in the be quiet! CPU Cooler. It is embedded in the center of the cooling fins and was a bear to install, so I have no plans to mess with it. I...

    CustoMac Mini 2013: GA-H87N-WIFI - Core i3-4340 - Intel HD 4600

Several years ago I built up a 10.9 system with a Z87N-WiFi motherboard (Hack_1 in the listing). I rebuilt that with a more current motherboard, uprated power supply, faster memory and CPU and an NVMe main drive. My brother is going to attempt to built his first hackintosh with the original...

Temperature questions... I have various temperature programs running: iStat, TG Pro and HWMonitor. They are not exactly equivalent. The fans in my system are: (2) front case fans (2) CPU cooler fans (2) GPU fans (1) power supply fan iStat displays 2 fans, in the Main Window, TG Pro displays...
