FIRST, ramfam, brilliant guide, worked like a charm (knocking wood) to get up and running. My specs are identical except a GT520 instead of the 560.
I haven't done the NVidia web drivers yet as everything appears happy so far without doing them. Do I just open Clover Configurator, load the...
I do still have the Install ML app, so I could create a new USB installer. I'm hesitant as I had to tweak a bunch of little things to get it fully running, not thrilled about going back down that road.
Where / how do I switch BIOS modes? Haven't been able to find that info for my Gigabyte board...
Sorry, yes. El Capitan install via Clover seems to be fine for now. Well enough alone.
Is to get the Mountain Lion install back up and running. This is a separate drive that was working till I accidentally put Clover on it Sunday.
I understand and like your idea to use MultiBeast to...
Okay, got MultiBeast 5.5.5, I see the Chimera bootloaders but it's skipping the "Destination Select" pane, and only giving me the option to install on El Capitan, which obviously is not what I want to do.
Also just noting everything else along the way here.
Was comparing my backup of the ML...
Deleted everything from the EFI partition - now selecting the ML drive in F12 menu just reverts to Clover. Used to load the attached image.
When opening MultiBeast from my El Capitan install, I only see Legacy or UEFI Clover options, no Chimera?
Pretty sure I set up the USB drive to load...
I honestly don't remember which I installed, but there was an EFI folder on the top level of that drive that I deleted hoping that would solve it.
Does / did Chameleon/Chimera use the EFI partition, or can I safely ERASE it via Disk Utility?
Somehow somewhere the mobo is looking for...
Been reading more, anything I can, and I see the "remove all clover entries" or whatever it is in my Clover boot menu. But will that scrap the Clover setup on my now successful El Capitan setup?
And, I can get in to my BIOS on my ga-x79-ud5, and see the boot priority, but not sure how/what to...
Thanks in advance to all the great help here, I've done some searching but haven't turned anything up yet exactly like what I need. Feel free to scold and point me somewhere if needed.
I had a working install with my Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5, 3930k, 32GB Corsair Vengeance, and ASUS ENGT520. Got a...
I managed to get El Capitan RUNNING on this machine, thanks to this guide :: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-ga-x79-ud5-3930k-gtx-560-2gb-10-11-2.181173/ ::
Still unsure how to resurrect my Mountain Lion install, will post a new thread on that topic.
Got to Clover menu with my new USB drive (having followed your directions), injected Nvidia in the options, I get a black screen with apple logo, the progress bar starts, then it reboots.
So I guess I'm making progress on my El Capitan install (!) but need to get clover off of my main drive so...
Well I inadvertently installed Clover to my main hard drive. Deleted the EFI and EFI backups folders from the top level of the hard drive, but on reboot it is now booting to Clover not to my old install.
In fact I can't even get to Clover any more, now I'm stuck at the attached boot screen
Thanks, will do, and I'm following another threads steps, too, with nearly identical specs.
One question with all of this, can I leave other USB and FireWire drives, dongles, pci cards, etc installed while trying to boot and install, or do I need to strip down?
Thanks as always
Yes, I installed the unibeast stuff on an 8gb USB thumb drive. The install seems to go fine, I see both the"USB" and the EFI partitions, but when restarting holding F12, I select "UEFI: USB" from the list and it just boots to my Mountain Lion system instead.
It is a relatively old USB drive...
I've tried every combination of UEFI / Legacy and NVidia / not when building the USB drive, no love getting it to boot from the thumb drive.
I'm hesitant to enter and change any BIOS settings since this is a functional hack running Mountain Lion that I use daily (starting again...
Thanks! So I should remake the USB drive without any additional graphics options? Where do I add the Nvidia arg?
I'll search now to get some more context!
My first time using the new instructions with clover so I'm still feeling my way through it.
Sorry and thanks.
I used Unibeast via this page :: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/unibeast-install-os-x-el-capitan-on-any-supported-intel-based-pc.172672/ :: to build the USB. I don't recall right now the graphics options I set, but I do believe I set as needed.
