I had this problem this afternoon with Clover 5119 and Catalina. Tearing my hair out. What finally worked for me was to remove my video card and just use the internal graphics for the setup. Hardware is a GA-Z97X-UD5H. Video is (was) Sapphire RX-580.
When Microsoft released its much maligned Windows 8, I abandoned Windows and switched to MacOS. I have come to like MacOS better and for the most part I like Apple's hardware. The problem, of course, is that if you want the OS, then you're also married to the hardware. And if Apple does...
Smooze is wonderful. Only a few bucks and the effect is like scrolling on silk. Lots of customizations and the support is also stellar. Just remember that if you rebuild and want to transfer your license you need to email the dev.
I wish I had read this thread before I, too, bricked my 2018 MacBook Pro 15 installing Catalina.
Here’s what happened to me this week:
Installed Catalina a couple of weeks ago.
Had some issues and decided to go back to High Sierra, which is what my machine shipped with.
Pressed...
This can be confusing. You need to click on "releases" to get the zip file that contains the kext. Or, just follow my links above. Then, download x.x.x.release.zip.
I did some research this evening on a system that was experiencing this problem.
I had been hoping that switching from the Intel graphics to an Nvidia card would solve it, but no go. But it turns out that putting WhateverGreen and Lilu in efi/clover/kexts/other solves the problem for me...
Update on the situation from Extreme Tech. Basically, there's nothing new. They're suggesting that you sign the aforementioned petition:

ALC887/888b from Multibeast 10.4.0 works for me in High Sierra on GA-Z77-DS3H. The system even sleeps and wakes properly, which is something I had trouble with in earlier builds on this board.

I have an "AtherosL1cEthernet.kext" that seems to work in my Z77-DS3H with High Sierra if I put it in clover/kexts/other. I'm not sure where I got it, but you can probably look it up. It might have been from an older Multibeast.
Okay, I've been running 387.10.10.10.25.161 for a few days now. Seems fine. The memory goes up to 300-400 MB sometimes, but not into the GB range like I was seeing before.
I just tried the suggestion posted by moonlight16. The script ran, but somehow my EFI was erased and now I can't reboot. In fact, at this moment my system appears to be totally bricked. I can't even get the BIOS. Not sure what happened.
Update
Okay, I have the system back again. Not sure what...
I can confirm that the NVIDIA web driver 387.10.10.10.25.158 caused a similar problem on my system.
Every time I scrolled up and down in the Activity Monitor, the memory usage for WindowServer would go up another 30 MB. It was up to 7 GB in a couple of hours!
The temporary solution for me was...
Here's another example of how weird this problem is. This morning I went to the Sharing panel in System Preferences and changed the name of the computer that was showing up in the Finder sidebar as an iMac. It now shows up as a Mac Pro, as it should. Thinking I had found a solution, I tried the...
This thread is not a solution, so far as I know, but more information from people having the same problem:

So much of life is like that. We get so frustrated when our ducks won't line up the way we want them to. But maybe that's because they want to line up a different way, which is even better than the way we had intended. Thanks for sharing your results with the SYMBIOS.
I know what you're talking about. I have five Hackintoshes set up as Mac Pro 3,1. Most are normal, but two are like yours. One shows an iMac icon in the Finder sidebar and another shows a Mac Mini. But everywhere else in the OS that the icons appear, they show as Mac Pros -- even when you click...
I just got UniBeast to work, but I'm not sure how. Here's what I did...
1. On my 2011 MacBook Air, running El Capitan (10.11.2), I downloaded a fresh copy of El Capitan (10.11.3) and a fresh copy of UniBeast (6.1.1)
2. Reformatted a Kingston 32GB flash drive that had worked reliably for many...
loqshio's solution worked for me. Many thanks!
BTW, apparently there's another solution that has to do with the shared folder if this one doesn't work:
