[Solved] Finder app crashes - not usable.

OMG... Thank you! I had been dealing with this issue for weeks and was on the verge of doing a fresh install. Didn't even think about doing this till I saw your post. So far it's fixed the issue!

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

It may sound obvious, but double check your hardware. Make sure your memory is seated correctly. Make sure all your power connections are properly plugged in. When I was suffering from random reboots, I was on the verge of RMA'ing half my setup. Then I realised I'd knocked the ATX power...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Just to follow up on this, I tried running Memtest86 a bunch of times (since running Memtest in MacOS kept resulting in reboots). First time showed up 2 errors on Test 6. Second time it ran without errors. Third time it ran fine until the third pass, when the system crashed and rebooted. Tried...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

My system is rebooting every 5-20 minutes now. Did a fresh install and the problem is persisting (though it wasn't an issue during the install procedure). Going to run Memtest86 to see if it's a memory fault (I hope not, cause its going to take forever for them to be RMA'd and replaced).

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Had a few random reboots today. Not sure what's causing them, but will go through a process of elimination to see if I can locate a cause on the hardware side of things. Does anyone have any other suggestions for how I might identify the cause? Is there something I should look for in system...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Random question - does adding a USB hub impact the USB port limit? Both my monitors have USB hubs, plus I have a 7 port hub that I keep on the desk for easy hot swap connection. Will using those limit the rest of the ports?

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

They certainly can. I followed all your instructions but had no luck. Was going a little crazy trying to work out why I couldn't make sleep work. Then it occurred to me that it could be an external peripheral causing the wake issue. So I unplugged all the USB devices and of course sleep worked...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

First of all, thanks Casey for the fantastic guide and continued support! Finally convinced me to upgrade the old Z68 2600K system! After two attempts I've been able to get the system up and running with headless IGPU functionality (H264 and HEVC working). However I seem to be having two...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi Casey. First of all, thanks for this excellent guide - it's inspired me to finally upgrade my old Z68 2600K machine! Just waiting for the parts to arrive.... I noticed you've updated the guide with a section for pro video users. You say: Does this also apply to RX580 users? Or is it just...

How to build your own iMac Pro [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

KGP - please don't take my comment as an attack. I was trying to be constructive with my comments. I truly do appreciate the work you are doing and hope you continue to do so :) I was merely trying to say that criticism can often be helpful and shouldn't always be so fiercely resisted!

How to build your own iMac Pro [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

Wow. I've been following this thread since it started and was a little surprised to see that the page count had suddenly jumped up by about 5 pages. That surprise turned to disappointment when I discovered that most of it was pointless bickering. Guys, you need to remember that this is a...

How to build your own iMac Pro [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

Damn :thumbdown As far as I'm aware, they won't be interchangeable, so if you want the Xeons, you'll need to go for a C422 board. I guess it will come down to how much you care about ECC RAM and making your hack as close to the iMac Pro as possible. Also, the Xeons will be considerably more...

    Are Vega, OpenCL... working?

Thanks for the detailed reply Gigamaxx. I'd just like to clarify one thing - when you talk about "crashes", what are we talking about exactly? Programs hanging / force quitting? Or full blown system failure and kernel panics?

How to build your own iMac Pro [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

Appreciate the updates KGP. Good to see all USB ports working, in addition to Thunderbolt. One question with Thunderbolt: you say it is "natively implemented" - does this mean that Thunderbolt peripherals are hot swappable? Or do they need to be connected before booting? I know this has been a...

    Are Vega, OpenCL... working?

How bad are these crashes? Occasional? Or completely unstable? Great scores are completely pointless if they don't translate into actual performance in the apps/games you want to use...

How to build your own iMac Pro [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

Unfortunately it doesn't explain anything. The article that they link to is headlined "Intel ‘Core X-Series’ w/ up to 18-core processors coming Sept. ahead of iMac Pro". Read it carefully - it's saying the Intel processors are coming ahead of the iMac Pro release. The guy linking to it then...

How to build your own iMac Pro [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

Awesome work. I'm looking to build something similar to your goal build, so I'll be keeping a close eye on your success here. Still unsure whether it's a good idea to go down the Skylake X road or wait for the iMac Pro to be released and go for the Xeons...

Awesome. This is shaping up as my next build then. Keep us posted on the stability :) If you don't mind me asking, what sort of usage does this setup get? What sort of apps have you tested it with?
