Apple Previews macOS 11.0 Big Sur - Available Fall 2020

Not much difference for single core. Many apps aren't designed to take advantage of multi-core processors.

Apple Previews macOS 11.0 Big Sur - Available Fall 2020

Unfortunately it'll end up like PowerPC Macs if Apple's ARM is proprietary designed and incompatible with other OS but that's very far in the future and I most likely will be buried 6 feet underground by the time Apple comes up with something revolutionary assuming if Apple or the world still...

Apple Previews macOS 11.0 Big Sur - Available Fall 2020

TRS-80 Color Computer was my first computer in 1980 and I was only 10 years old. Got Commodore 64, Timex Sinclaire 1000, IBM PCjr, IBM PC XT and afterward lost count of all Intel based computers. I would like to try to get one of those old computer as collectible so I can show my kid what...

I even had 300 baud modem and connected with expensive CompuServe in the early 80's. I used to run largest PCBoard BBS in southeatern Virginia.

Apple Previews macOS 11.0 Big Sur - Available Fall 2020

That's true that all cpus are not perfect but Intel is far the worst I've experienced. I had three servers with Intel Atom CPU and it failed in one year. It was a flaw design which Intel didn't admit for long time. Now I'm using servers with AMD cpus and it's been running strong for 6 years...

Does New Apple Chips = Hackintosh End?

It's true that Intel made no significant progress with their cpu but AMD has since there is AMD code in macOS... It's possible that Apple will use AMD cpu in their high end desktops or server platforms once their contract with Intel expires.

Apple Previews macOS 11.0 Big Sur - Available Fall 2020

I doubt Apple will entirely abandon x86 cpu support. AMD still beats Intel by large margin and there's AMD code in macOS so it's possible that Apple will switch from Intel to AMD in the near future for their high end desktops or server platforms.

Apple Previews macOS 11.0 Big Sur - Available Fall 2020

I don't like the new designs since it looks exactly like iOS designs which I loathe. If it offers the option to keep legacy or alternative designs then I may stay but the question remains... what new lockdowns will Apple impose on Big Sur. If it's going to be exactly like iOS with jailbreak...

Apple Previews macOS 11.0 Big Sur - Available Fall 2020

Just think about it... it's not economically fesiable to design and manufacture a high end ARM cpu that can outperform Intel or AMD processor. There's simply not enough demand for it to justify the cost, research and time to develop one for Mac Pro. More people buy Macbooks and iMacs. Not so...

Apple Previews macOS 11.0 Big Sur - Available Fall 2020

Apple said they will continue to support "Intel based" Mac Pro for the foreseeable future. I don't think they will design and manufacture a high end ARM cpu for Mac Pro cuz there's little market for it considering the cost can be $10,000 to buy one. ARM cpus for macbook and iMacs make sense...

Apple’s First ARM-based Mac Will Feature 12-Core Processor, Release in 2021

It looks like Apple will continue to support Intel based macOS for "many years" to come. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-apple-developers/apple-switches-to-its-own-chips-for-mac-computers-as-it-adds-features-privacy-controls-idUSKBN23T1IH

Apple’s First ARM-based Mac Will Feature 12-Core Processor, Release in 2021

That's going to upset many new Mac Pro users who already shelled out $10,000+. The only option they have is to sell it or use it with legacy macOS once newer macOS is no longer compatible with x86 architecture.

Apple’s First ARM-based Mac Will Feature 12-Core Processor, Release in 2021

A lot will change in 10 years from now. Linux Desktop is getting better and better and who knows there will be another unix based OS that will rival with macOS. I have no plans to go back to Windows so it's either macOS or unix-based OS. The only thing that irritates me is that macOS is...

Gigabyte's Z490 Motherboard Lineup Shows Up Early

I agree. It's a waste since Intel haven't made serious headway with their processors. They basically just add more cache memory and cores. So, I'll wait for Ryzen.

Apple’s First ARM-based Mac Will Feature 12-Core Processor, Release in 2021

Smells like incompatibility issues down the road as different manufacturers will produce their own using ARM processor reference design. Kinda like Nvidia and AMD licencing their video card specs to Asus, Gigabyte, eVGA, etc.

Apple’s First ARM-based Mac Will Feature 12-Core Processor, Release in 2021

Not much I think. Those ARM processors are more suitable for macbooks and possibly low-end iMacs due to its low power requirement. High end iMacs and Mac Pros will still use Intel or possible AMD processors. Currently ARM processor cannot outperform Intel/AMD but that can change in the...

I think it has something to do with Pentium G4560 and you probably need to set FakeCPUID to 0x0306A0 and use SMIOS iMac 17,1 or iMac 14,2
