    pastrychef's testing machine - HP Elite 8300 SFF - i7-3770 - GT 630

@phrozenpenguin Got the PSU, adapter cable, and graphics card but haven't had the time to get it all installed and working, yet. Also ended up with a circle slash on boot that set me back a little. Finally figured out I needed to delete the prelinkedkernel and then rebuild my kext cache. So my...

    pastrychef's testing machine - HP Elite 8300 SFF - i7-3770 - GT 630

Thanks for the advice. I should have the PSU, adapter cable, and RX 580 all by this weekend, so I'll let you know how it goes. I'll definitely be cloning my system drive before doing anything, just in case I mess something up and need to start over. This 8300 has been rock solid on High Sierra...

    pastrychef's testing machine - HP Elite 8300 SFF - i7-3770 - GT 630

I decided to take the plunge and try the PSU upgrade, so I would be able to upgrade graphics cards more easily now and in the future. Getting a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580. Hopefully, the upgrade goes off without a hitch. Any advice on how/which order to update my GPU and OS? I'm currently using a...

    pastrychef's testing machine - HP Elite 8300 SFF - i7-3770 - GT 630

Thanks for the link to that thread. Looks interesting. I'll have to decide if it makes more sense to spend extra on a new PSU plus an RX580 or go with the RX560 with 4 DP that doesn't need a PSU change. Decisions, decisions, lol :)

    pastrychef's testing machine - HP Elite 8300 SFF - i7-3770 - GT 630

Thanks for the link to the card. I found a place that carries it for $240 -- which is about double I wanted to spend at the moment. I'll research the adapter and PSU upgrade. That might be my best bet. Thanks for the suggestion. My current setup is working well, but I'd like to move to Catalina...

    pastrychef's testing machine - HP Elite 8300 SFF - i7-3770 - GT 630

I'm currently driving 2 4K monitors @ 60Hz via DisplayPort and 1 1080p@60Hz via HDMI with a GTX950. I'm on High Sierra and waiting to get an equivalent or better Radeon as a replacement so I can move up to newer versions of macOS. Unfortunately, because of the power supply constraints, it's hard...

    pastrychef's testing machine - HP Elite 8300 SFF - i7-3770 - GT 630

Anyone know if there is an RX 560 with multiple DisplayPort outputs? I'm looking for something to drive 2 4K monitors on a stock 8300CMT system. I've considered the NVS 510, but I'd prefer something more recent so performance isn't compromised.

    nVidia NVS510 - working OOB - 4x miniDP, 4k compatible

Next time you use this, I'm curious what the performance is like on a 4K display. Is there any lag or stuttering when bringing up Mission Control? That's the one thing I'm worried about with it. Thanks!

Wow, this is pretty sweet. Thanks for mentioning this. I've just been opening the case and disconnecting/reconnecting cables when I wanted to not into Windows. I'm definitely going to give this a try instead.

For anyone that has upgraded to a RX560, did you have to change your profile from iMac 13,2? If so, what did you change it to? Thanks!

I bought an MSI Nvidia GTX 950 with 3 DP outputs back in 2016. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127904 That exact card probably isn't what you'd want to buy now, but I can confirm that if you have multiple DP outputs that you should be able to drive multiple 4K displays.

I think there's an issue with some of the internal USB ports not working if the ports aren't renamed. I know the BT on my my pci-e wifi+bt card wasn't working until I did the rename. The BT on the card is powered via an internal USB cable that connects the card to a port on the motherboard.

And your monitor has HDMI 2.0 ports? Not all 4K monitors do.

Updated to 10.12.6 from El Cap through the Mac App Store. Everything worked great after I upgraded Clover (whoops!). No issues. No need to redo anything. The Nvidia app even prompted to update the driver to the correct version without me having to do anything.

Yes, I'd agree with that. If you want a "Retina" display, go for 4K at 24" or 27". If you want to use 4K at native res (non-Retina, non-HiDPI), go for 32" or higher. I like "Retina" displays, so I went with a 27" 4K monitor and couldn't be happier (well, 5K would be better, but the price was...

[Guide] HP 6300 Pro / HP 8300 Elite - A 100 percent Working and Easily Affordable CustoMac

You don't necessarily need extra desktop space in order to justify 4K in macOS. On a 24" or 27" monitor, 4K can give you "Retina" quality with desktop space equivalent to a 1080p or 1440p. Everything is just clearer and sharper in HiDPI mode. But, yeah, no good reason to upgrade until you feel...

[Guide] HP 6300 Pro / HP 8300 Elite - A 100 percent Working and Easily Affordable CustoMac

You can, but I would avoid it simply because with using Clover as a bootloader the whole backup/restore/rebuild Fusion drive process becomes much more complicated than it needs to be. You never know when a drive will fail, and you have to replace it. Making that process as quick and simple as...

    pastrychef's testing machine - HP Elite 8300 SFF - i7-3770 - GT 630

Thanks! Next step will be upgrading to Sierra following the steps you posted earlier. BTW, with the wifi/BT PCI-E card, LAN performance over wifi maxes out at about 240Mbps for me. My system is one floor below my main wifi AP, so that's not bad at all. I'm going to test plugging into a wifi...

You're right. I did ask you about that. I just wasn't sure if you could simply remove it with no consequences or if there was a more complex process for removing it. I'll backup and remove it tonight. Thanks!
