    UP3218K only runs at 4k

Which OS are you running? What other displays were you running? You should be able to disconnect one of the cables to the UP3218K and wait a few seconds for the system to start working again without restarting. I guess I should try the Apple Pro Display XDR type of mtdd for the Acer.

    UP3218K only runs at 4k

I've attached my work. - EDID from UniqueNameIdentifier contains the Dell UP3218K info. There is a mtdd file in there to try. - EDID from JoesMacMini contains my failed attempts for the Acer XV273K. I am able to create patches to add single cable resolutions but connecting both cables causes...

    UP3218K only runs at 4k

The overlay is a modified EDID. I made an EDID editor script to make the changes. I've been trying with the Acer XV273K but have had no luck. The presence of the mtdd file and two DisplayPort 1.4 connections just causes the screens to go black and reset repeatedly. I guess I'll switch to...

    UP3218K only runs at 4k

No. I don't think Catalina would act differently, but it might be interesting to try - just to get a baseline. The next step is to create a mtdd file like the UP2715K except make it for 8K. I'll make one later. I am currently testing a dual cable DisplayPort 1.4 4K 144Hz display (Acer XV273K).

Using a Presonus Quantum Thunderbolt 2 Audio Interface...HELP

I am unaware of any problems having SIP disabled. Just don't click on weird stuff and you should be ok. Remember, SIP didn't always exist. Also, everyone running Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave, or Catalina on an unsupported Mac is running with SIP disabled. I don't know or care enough about SIP to...

    UP3218K only runs at 4k

Thanks for this. You are saying the that the Dell UP3218K shows a 2560x2880 image stretched to the entire screen? This might suggest it can't support a 5K dual cable timing like the Apple 6K display. Are you running Catalina? Did you remove Apple's override file at...

    Adding/Using HiDPI custom resolutions

Was the mode set to 5120x2880 mode before looking at About This Mac -> Displays? Maybe it say 3840x2160 because the EDID has the "First detailed timing includes the native pixel format and preferred refresh rate" flag set in the first EDID block, and the first detailed timing in the same block...

    Adding/Using HiDPI custom resolutions

Use SwitchResX, double click the current resolution in the Current Resolutions list. Post a screen shot. It should show pixel clock, horizontal and vertical active pixels, blanking pixels, and scan rates. Use the following command to make sure you're connected with DisplayPort 1.4. Post the...

1c67:0102 is the Quantum2 device and you were adding IOPCITunnelled to the Quantum1 device? My plutil commands add IOPCITunnelled to all four IOKitPersonalities that use the com_presonus_quantum_driver_Device IOClass. Ask them if there's a reason they need to check if it's connected to...

Are you Are you using the latest driver from Oct 22, 2019 "Universal Control v3.1.1.54569"? Is the quantum_driver.kext in /System/Library/Extensions or /Library/Extensions? I think the default location is /Library/Extensions. If both exist, delete the one in /System/Library/Extensions...

Use [ code] [ /code] when quoting text from command line or source code. The device is in your lspci output (lspci -nnvt might be more informative) but the driver didn't load. I like BBEdit.app because it restores the permission when you save. If the kext cache was updated properly, then you...

Is it failing because the driver isn't loading or because the PCIe device isn't detected? Run lspci from pciutils when it works and when it doesn't work.

    pastrychef's build - Asus Maximus VIII Gene - i7-7700K - GTX 1080

An older version of Intel Power Gadget (3.0.3) would draw the graph differently. I think it would draw the minimum instead of the average so you would see it dip below 1GHz when idling. In the current version of Intel Power Gadget (3.6.1) you see the line being drawn for the average, but the...

    pastrychef's build - Asus Maximus VIII Gene - i7-7700K - GTX 1080

I don't think you can compare them that way. A new line is generated in the output only when a new multiplier is encountered (notice that no line is the same and that every new line is longer than the previous line and that each line contains all the multipliers of the previous line). It does...

    Adding/Using HiDPI custom resolutions

4K -> 1440p = downscale Yes. A HiDPI mode should be automatically created for each timing or scaled resolution that is greater than a certain size. Your SwitchResX menu bar menu shows that HiDPI modes have not been enabled. Did you follow the instructions in the first post? Specifically, the...

Using a Presonus Quantum Thunderbolt 2 Audio Interface...HELP

If it's working, then I don't think there's anything else to do except figure out how to get it to work after a reboot (because you shouldn't have to reset NVRAM every time). Turn the Mac off and the VRS8 off. Connect cables. Turn VRS8 on. Then turn Mac on. Does it work? Restart (warm boot)...

    Adding/Using HiDPI custom resolutions

A 1920x1080 HiDPI resolution drawn on a 2560x1440 resolution screen means 2.25 frame buffer pixels per physical pixel. But that doesn't mean it's useless. You're still getting 3840x2160 pixels worth of information but some of that information has to be combined from multiple pixel into a single...

    Adding/Using HiDPI custom resolutions

Hackintosh or not doesn't matter. As for your display size, my 2560x1600 display has HiDPI modes enabled so it should work for you. I have HiDPI modes from 720x450 up to 4096x2048 (connected using Nvidia GTX 680 which has a max frame buffer size of 8192x4096; macOS Catalina). Apple might limit...
