i tried doing this method on a freshly installed 10.10.5.
I was able to boot onto a unibeast setup 10.10.5 installation and install yosemite from the USB onto my SSD

just bumping up this thread... i just got this motherboard and i wanted to install El Capitan on this. Are there any advise I need before pursuing installing this? or shall i be better use an older OS X for this motherboard?

Just an update again, I am able to update to the latest firmware as of this post: P9X79 PRO BIOS 4608.
Posting this one on a Hackintosh on this motherboard on this version... No issues so far both Windows 8.1 x64 (UEFI boot) and Mavericks (Legacy).
