    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

You should re-install the patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and the AppleACPIPlatform rollback with multibeast to fix the issue. The upgrade causes these files to be replaced with vanilla versions.

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

The important thing to note in this configuration (when I used to run it) is that when you boot the machine, you must always boot with the HDMI interface. Don't try to boot while the ATI card is attached to a monitor. It won't work. I had an HDMI switch that let me switch between my ATI card...

Hi All, Regarding 10.8.2 Update: I screwed something up and ended up having to start from scratch with a new 10.8.2 Unibeast installer. That went well but I also needed to use the ACPI rollback mentioned earlier in this thread. I was changing a bunch of components (new vid card too) and...

Try booting with GraphicsEnabler=no flag. Or, try PCIRootUID=1.

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

It sounds like you're referring to the USB 3.0 ports on the XPS 8500. Those are the blue ports. They should work out of the box as Mountain Lion supports it. If they aren't working, I would check to make sure if USB 3.0 is working in Windows/Linux for you. I have read about problems with the...

Hi JHM, 1) To alter the kext, first put a copy of it somewhere where you can work on it (and so you don't disrupt the original one). 2) Right click on the kext through Finder > choose the option to show the package. This should open up another finder window. 3) In the new window, open...

JHM, I actually think HDMI audio is already working (video is already working with my instructions). I'll have to plug it into my tv to find out. This is all using the HD 4000 video output. For NVIDIA cards, I presume they all "just work" - but I'll have to get an Nvidia card to find out.

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

Yeah - I have to get an Nvidia card as soon as I can. I purchased the Radeon 7770 from Dell using a gift I got with the 8500 purchase. I should have instead bought an Nvidia card. But, at that point, I wasn't sure if we could eventually run OS X on it. I was running into walls trying to get...

Yup - speedstep is working if you see the jumping of frequencies. During idle moments, you should see the frequency/multiplier/voltage drop for power saving. When it needs more horsepower, it should jump up. I don't know why bluetooth isn't working for you. For me, it worked out of the...

For SpeedStep, I use the chameleon bootloaders ability to generate P and C states automagically. To turn that on, add this to org.chamelon.boot.plist: <key>GenerateCStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GeneratePStates</key> <string>Yes</string> Or, use a utility like "Chameleon...

Hi, For audio, try this: 1) Install the latest VoodooHDA posted here: http://code.google.com/p/voodoohda/downloads/list 2) After the installer finishes, don't reboot. Install the VoodooHDA kext from the zip attachment i posted earlier. I use a utility called "Kext Wizard" to help...

Hi Msoorachi, You definitely can't use graphicsenabler=yes with this system. Use the gfx string I posted in my first post in org.chameleon.Boot.plist. That will let give you full graphics. As for audio, I use VoodooHDA http://code.google.com/p/voodoohda/downloads/list. Download the...

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

Yeah, the Radeon HD 7000 series will not work in Mac OS X at all. You will have to resort to switching inputs. I have a DVI cable to the Dell 24 inch monitor with an HDMI connector on the other end. If I want to boot into Windows for games, I use the Radeon's HDMI port. If I want to use Mac...

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

Hi msooriarachchi, I haven't tried the latest Unibeast, but I don't think anything changed that would cause this. "Waiting for root device" is simply an error that means that it can't find the boot volume (which, in this case is just the USB flash drive itself). So, I would try plugging...

Hi JHM, Yes, any text editor will do. I use the GUI based editor "Text Wrangler" http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/textwrangler/id404010395?mt=12 Or, you can use any of the CLI ones like vi or nano. There's also another GUI one built into mac os x called "text editor". I haven't explored...

Hi JHM, - Ethernet works when you boot from Unibeast as Unibeast contains almost everything needed to boot almost any Intel based system. It also includes the lnx2mac realtek drivers. However, the eventual goal is to be able to boot without Unibeast and use only what you need for your...

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

Hi, I thought I would write this guide since I got my XPS 8500 working with Mountain Lion. Here is what I did/used: First, the hardware: - Dell XPS 8500 - ATI Radeon 7770 (doesn't work, but I can leave it in my system and not worry about it. I keep it in my system to boot into...
